Well,
We did it again... we traded Rick {Forked Tongue Enterprises - www.snakesplus.com } our two Apricot Pueblans for three new corns... all females... an Amel. Motley, a Snow Het. for Motley, and an Okeetee... we also picked up this beautiful boy. He's an Argentine Columbian cross... bout 8 mos. old. Just a beauty. Pix of the corns will be later tonight after I buy some more batteries!
Jon

Kinda, but our BCI's tail is even redder than his... course we're wondering if she wasn't crossed with BCC... not sure - but she's really pink..and the tail of course..

Well, we happen to think he's beautiful. Sure there is always the debate on cross breeding - and I can see both sides. However, it does happen in the wild in many species & cross breeding is also the cause of many of the popular morphs out there as well... i.e. like saying a blood red corn and a snow corn shouldn't be bred.... It's a hotly debated issue and one I don't care to get into at this point. I guess agree to disagree. Personally, I think the appearance of the snake is improved with the combination of the two breeds, and his temperment is fantastic and quite docile.
Besides looking at the broad range of genetics, humans included... we are ALL hybrids now anyway.

I just wanted to add this quote concerning the ranges of boas in South and Central America to make the point that when ranges overlap, cross breeding occurs naturally, and since all boas are boa constrictor ... then this crossing is truly just a subspecies to subspecies crossing which is simply considered a 'morph' and not a 'genetic freak of nature', as this subspecies to subspecies breeding would generally occur naturally when males are ranging during the breeding season.
"The boa constrictor has the widest distribution range of the boines, occurring as far north as 100 miles south of the U.S. border in northern Mexico and as far south as about 38 degress south latitude in Argentina and Uruguay (about 68 degrees of latitude total). And fossil evidence indicates that its range was considerably more extensive at one time. The species with the most restricted distribution is the emerald tree boa (to about 16 degrees south latitude, about 23 degrees of latitude total), the only species among the five whose range does not extend below the Tropic of Capricorn in southern South America. The common tree boa, rainbow boa and green anaconda each have ranges that cover 36-42 degrees of latitude. More importantly, the geographic ranges of the five species overlap widely through the Guianas and the Amazon Basin."
This was taken from LORE magazine I believe 1994 was the print date. It can be found online at vaherper.com
