Here I was tonight wondering what else I could get myself for my b-day tomorrow. Well, I figured for my 28th, I'd go ahead and drift just a little bit farther back into the dark side of herpetoculture.
Here's a pic of one of my newest, courtesy of Jay Kiper of Exotic Jungle. This lucky little guy has himself two het females to keep him company.

Yep. He's an albino monocle. At the latest, I'll have pics of the female hets available to post tomorrow night. Monocles, both albino and normal, have always been one of my favorite snakes to work with.

I don't have the intestinal fortitude myself, but that is one beautiful snake, naja. And I know they're not, but I'll be darned if those don't look like well-placed bullet holes on the sides of that tank..lol
Happy early b-day, btw.

CoferJ.. Those are screw holes were he has plexi glass screwed for the cage.. The plexi will crack if you drill it in two fast an hard against the glass at the end of the screw.. I found out on my own for that case..
Naja happy early BDAY.. Thats your present, me answering a question for you,lol

So was I static you can see the rivet in the one. No I dont have the guts to keep hots. I have 2 small kids at home too. If i were single I may try it but wife would kill me, and i would in no way want to endanger the kids. Granted i have larger boids, but I dont need a non existant antivenom to treat a bite.
Believe me I would LOVE to be able to keep that snake!!!!

I should clarify. The pic was taken by Jay, and not by me. The snakes won't be arriving here until tomorrow afternoon.
As for antivenom, I don't keep any on hand, for a variety of reasons. Primarily financial, as it is very expensive, and has a limited shelf life.
There are two investments that everyone who keeps exotic venomous should make, although I'll admit to only having made neither one yet. The first is to purchase a copy of The Antivenom Index, published by the AZA. The second is a membership in the Florida Antivenom Bank.
While neither investment will save life or limb, both certainly will save you a lot of headaches and money in the event of an envenomation.
Anyways, here's a pic Jay just sent me of one of the females.
And here's the other female

Happy b-day there naja. If I brought one of those home my wife would have my bags packed before I could get the snake set up. that is a beautiful snake. I too do not have the kohonas to keep a hot. I live by the philoshphy that is it can muck me up I don't muck with it. So far the worst I have had to do is pull teeth out of my arm, that did not involve a night at the hospital.Besides I have 2 loose snakes out now if a cobra would get out I would have #$%^$%^$%^$%^& to pay. You can have my fair share of the hots Naja
