Is this an identify the animals game? Unless the color is way off....the top snake is a timber rattler...canes have a reddish dorsal stripe down the spine....then eastern diamondback and then copperheads and a grumpy looking american aligator. ...If this is that nature museum in Charlotte....they have a few mislabeled animals ..and some poor specimins...They can't seem to tell the difference in canebrakes and timbers for one...and their yellow ratsnakes are integrades.

So much for reptile ed 101 huh ?
UMM.. Shad ? I don't notice any cords to them heatrocks at all in them cages. Could you do us all a favor and go back and just reach in the cages and check on that for us ? Afterall, we wanna be sure ya know that they didn't cut the cord, cuz then it would be ok for them to be in there. Ya can never be too sure ya know
POOR Ally ! Bet he'd be a heck of a lot happier with more of an aquatic set up...why don't ya just go and place him in one while your over there checking on them cords Shad ? hehe

Doh! Poison! Darn them!
I bought Gracie a snake book the other day I saw at the grocery store and it's filled with 'poison' and poisonous' those dummies! And their scientific consultant has a degree in herpetology!!! I think he should change his name to Mr. Dumass
Just so y'all don't think all of NC's places are like that, WNCWild.org, the western north carolina nature center has an excellent reptile display, healthy robust animals in appropriate set ups. And they usually have a colubrid or two out of their cage so people can touch in a controlled, supervised manner as well. I think they are an excellent place to visit, right in Asheville.

Looks like a North GA Timber to me. Nice yellow color, but still has a prominent vertebral stripe. But the Canebrake is just a subspecies (and only recognized one half the time) so it is not a big deal. Nice looking animal though.
BTW: My poison is MGD!

I think the canebrake is a lock in now for being a ss...since someone ...I forget who, noted a slight difference in skull structure from the timber. So.....noone can say it's just a color phase anymore...well they can....but they are incorrect. (btw...I scoffed it for years claiming color phase...but what do/did I know?)
