Our herp association had a members cookout the other weekend. They said to bring a reptile with ya.. Sooo.. I did ..hehe...
The lil boy holding the ball python, JACKSON, wanted to take him home with him. Of course my daughter, Pammy, whom managed to get this one from julius for herself was not allowing such to happen. Allthough she did let him hold the snake fopr quite awhile, she never let them out of her site at all. lol
Notice that there are no adults in the pics ? I don't know why but when we unbagged the snakes the adults sort of took off the other way. It was the kids that all got up close with my lil snakies

Yeah I'm wondering if Lori mistook the reason of the group cook out as a time for the burms to get a free meal and excersize their hunting abilities
And to the group...Be careful what you ask for cuz you just might get it.

Not fair I want a burm. I also fell in love with the Albino Reticulated Pythons on Bob Clark's web site... (not that I have 2,500$ sitting in my pocket )

>>Notice that there are no adults in the pics ?
Doesn't this just go to prove that fear of reptiles often begins in adults, and then is "taught" to children as they older?! Amazing...I'd want to be up there hugging those beautiful animals! When I was young I was just like the kids in the picture...right up front with the snakes, fortunately I never grew out of it. Great shots Lori, thanks for sharing! Sort of...
I saw some phsych movies on learned behaviors a few years ago.
the movies were of an infant sitting up on trhe floor and having different things introduced, such as kittens, puppies etc.
When left undisturbed the child played with everything that was put in front of him.
When mommy or daddy, scramed loudly and grabbed the child, it taught, even at that young age that it should fear those things.
In the later clips, it showed the same child, sitting again and having the same things put there.
On the objects that resembled the objects where the kid was grabbed up, the child just sat there and squalled untill picked up or theobject was removed.
Similar objects did the same effect, as in kitten = fuzzy slippers= squalling after being grabbed by mommy on the fuzzy section of the test , etc.
Its called Pavlovian response and can affect a person for a vey long time.

According to the Animal Planet, is because we are primates and reptiles are predators of (some) primates so we have it in our brain to dislike them...
And of course, we believe everything they tell us on TV, right?
On a related topic, the concept that we have some "lizard" in our brain (if you follow evolution, i guess from before we were primates) was used by Dave Barry to explain why older men get red corvettes : it has to do with that sac under anole's necks they display for females...
