***Pics*** Some outdoor fall pics, and some feeding pics (Dial up warning)
It was a nice warm Saturday today so I thought I'd take some outdoor pics of a couple of my beauties, as well as measure and weigh them for my personal records. I didn't have enough time to take pics of all of them, I was running out of daylight and had lots of other things to do.
And I also took some pics of a few of them feeding tonight as well.
Enjoy, and as always, leave comments!
My sumatran blood, Jupiter. He's the best snake besides my ball pythons to take pics of. He just sits there and literally lets me position him any way I want. lol he knows he's gorgeous. lol He's 28 inches currently and 510 grams.

My male BCI, Goliath. He was in his dark phase today but was still beautiful enough to take pics of. He's difficult to take pics of, though.. he moves too much. lol He's 4 feet.

Harley, my female Cali King. This pic is SOOO CUTE! It almost makes me hyperventilate. lol

Cookie, my female leopard gecko.

Venus, my baby female ball, not quite a year old yet.

Monty, just before I gave him his food. He was soooo anxious. lol He's 3 years old.

Harley with a f/t rat pup. Yum!

Jupiter

Shakina, a long term captive of unknown age and 4 feet in length. She's finally eating frozen/thawed rats for me after 9 months. This is her second one that she's taken on her own within the past 2 weeks. And despite being in a shed cycle she took it without hesitation. SOOOO exciting.

Thanks, I certainly love bloods.
Oh, the balls have had their stubborn occasions, but generally are good eaters. lol I wish I had fed my male ball f/t rats since he was a baby, but he's always been fed mice, so he's real picky about that. He's only taken two rats for me inbetween a 2 month span. lol he'll eventually come around... maybe.

Nice pics, I love your Boa's -- and I got a Cali King just yesterday - how big is yours?

Beautiful snakes! Thanks for posting them!
The colors on your blood are fantastic, IMHO.

Nice pics. I think you should go back to Snakewoman, you really have lots of cool critters. I really like your King. I had a king for seven years, she went to snake heaven in 2001. You talked about Shakina just going to F/T after 9 months. I have a Dum that is about 3 to 4 months old and he will eat live pinky rats but I haven't had much luck with F/T. Would you share some of the thing that you did to get Shakina to eat F/T? Thank you.

Thanks. I’ll probably do my own pro wildlife photography on my own time… but I’m sticking with majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources.

eh... I never really liked the name Snakewoman, as I am more than just a "snakewoman" cause I have lots of other critters besides snakes. The name seemed a little tacky to me anyway... don't know why. Besides, I like my real name and I want people to know my name and call me that.
As for Shakina... it was mostly a lot of the time just leaving her alone.. since she is a long-term wildcaught specimen. The guy I got her from said he got her to eat f/t rats, but she wouldn't take them from me for the longest time... so for the first month or so I just left her alone, only disturbing her to change her water or the substrate. With some help from Louise (thanks ) she gave me some ideas to try. First when I was offering her f/t, I'd get it as warm as possible and wiggle it a little bit... but she wouldn't take it, most likely because she was still uncomfortable being in a relatively new environment. I'd offer her a f/t rat every 2 to 3 weeks.. and for most of the offerings I'd leave the rat in her enclosure in front of the hide overnight, sometimes brained, but that didn't seem to work... Sometimes when I offered her a f/t rat I took her hide away from her because I couldn't see where her head was, and that only made her insecure. So I stopped taking the hide away from her. Also to help her feel more secure I put plenty of silk plants in her enclosure to make it feel more closed in. I'm honestly not sure what finally got her to eat, but the first time she finally ate for me, I waited until the middle of the night to feed her, and I kept the room really dark but had the lights dimmed bright enough, just enough so I could see.. and I slowly stuck the f/t rat in her face without intimidating her in her hide and she immediately took it. I guess it just took a lot of time and patience and different trials to see what worked. But during all this time I did NOT feed her anything live, and she didn't lose any significant weight during the 9 months, either.

Hey, thanks for all the info on what you did with Shakina. It sounds like it might be kind of a waiting game. Yah, I like Adrya Webb better than Snakewomen too.

You're welcome.
Just give it some time and your snake may eventually come around to eating f/t rats. Just keep offering, even though I know many rats may go to waste.

Very nice snakes you have there. I had no idea, or didn't pay attention, that you owned blood pythons. My good friend, and somewhat partner in the snake business now, breeds bloods. He does blacks, albinos, marbles. leopards and some other morphs I can remember at the moment. The albino's are outrageous. I don't really care for bloods, but I do appreciate their beauty.
Here, check this one out. It is a reduced pattern striped albino he produced.

That's a gorgeous blood!
I only have one blood at the moment, but in the future I probably would get more, most likely a morph. One of my favorite morphs among the bloods are the Ivories.
Mine's quite friendly -- never been bitten by him. I don't mind that most bloods may have the snappy attitude....I can handle it. I admire their beauty and how big and thick-bodied they get. They're just a nice robust snake, to me.
Ivory

on the left is an ivory, the middle is a Matrix, and the right is a normal blood, all from one clutch. Just beautiful snakes.

Hmmm, I will have to let you know when the new babies hatch this coming year. I am not too much for the bloods. I just don't like having to be on guard at all times to keep from getting bitten. Although I do have to watch myself with the emeralds. They are face strikers! I don't think that out of 50 or so strikes at me that they have aimed at anything else. And there isn't much I hate worse than getting bitten in the face. It has happened a few times over the years so I am VERY sure that I don't like it, LOL!
