Very nice pic, but you shouldn't feed on loose substrate. The snake can eventually digest some of the bedding and become impacted. This could cause death in the animal depending on the severity of impaction. Also, switch to frozen/thawed rats instead of mice. I say frozen because I don't know if your feeding live or not, but contrary to popular belief that snakes need to "hunt" or they just like to be cool, a live prey item can scar, blind or kill you snake in mere seconds as well as transfer many intestinal parasites that would normally get killed in the freezing process.

Welcome to the site! She looks good, from what I can see of her! And I do agree with what Mr. Pathy had to say.

Shes 37 inches as of a few weeks ago, she is a really clean girl, all pink and some blue diamonds inside the pink diamonds on her side, she also has a cute lil Goatee, what kind of bedding do you recommend, i have nomoney so to speak, so i spend most of it on her, and so far she has ignored prekilled food, which has confused the local pet store not ot mention myslef, she has one scar on her "butt" but it is really lil about a 1/16th a inch, i dont know from what, i also have a Sawu Python..kinda snappy

We can switch her to frozen thawed if your willing to go the extra mile. You need to avoid pine based substrate and NEVER use cedar. Cedar will eventually kill your snake. She should NOT be on mice at all at this age and size. Quite frankly, most 1-1.5 month old boas should be starting on rat pups. At 8 months, my boas were on either weaned or small rats. At 14 months, they are on medium. You could probably do fine with a bag of pups and a bag of weaned (from www.rodentpro.com) to get her back on the right track.

As far as what should you use as substrate, there's a few good options:
Newspaper
Paper towels
Butcher Paper
Cypress Mulch
There's more, but those are what I prefer. I like the paper substrate for it's easy of cleaning and spotting mites. If you want loose substrate, cypress is awesome for retaining humidity. You can but it at Lowes, home depot, gardening stores, ect. It's really cheap stuff. To avoid mite infestations with loose substrate, you should either bake it at 250 for 15-20 min before using it, or freeze it for a couple of days. | |
