He was captured not too far from my home, in Seagoville, TX. It's not a great pic, but I am hoping someone will get a good idea as to what s/he is. Cute little begger. A little longer than a crayon, nice warm grey color, not quite as thick as a pencil, and very quick moving and alert.

It is something along the line of a Dekayi snake...or maybe a worm snake. colors vary on locale of those lil burrowng worm eaters and there are several species in texas that are somewhat similar. But...they pretty much all live on grubs, worms and ant/termite eggs. It could also be a ground snake...I'm not up on all the lil smaller burrowing texas species but if it happens to bite you, you won't die. If you keep it...don't heat the cage. They prefer to be somewhat cool and in moist soil where they can root around for worms. use a flat rock or piece of wood for a hide...they like to lay wedged under something flat.

I say it's a rough earth snake virginia striatula based on the size, coloration and that barely noticeable little darker band around the neck. This is typically seen in juvies, but diappears as they reach the imposing adult size of 7-10"

Your right J,
it is a rough earth snake,
the Storeria are not all that common around here,
but Virginia are pretty much everywhere, I find them in my yard weekly.
cute little guys.
