BugZapper Proof Bug
My office manager brought this guy in for me. Tough looking little critter. He is Rhinoceros Beetle, Dynastes tityus (Unicorn Beetle or Eastern Hercules Beetle). He seems content in a 1.5 gal. Very docile. She actually brought it in because she thought I could feed it to something. Guess I need a Barred Owl now
You can see that he has a few battle scars.

Cool bug! Great pics!
I've got one in grub stage, only about 18 months or so to wait before it's an adult.

I normally hate bugs, but that is way cool. Any care information on them?

I know he can open and close it, but I have not stuck my finger in there to test pressure . The top one is like a helmet. His head is actually very small where the bottom horn protrudes. If you look close in the first pic, you can see his shiny little eye at the base of the horn. They use them for male combat. I still have not been able find out the purpose of the hair-like material under the top horn.
A little dilluted Maple syrup and a little fruit and he should be good to go.

I know they fight over mates, but do they fight over territories?
