Ok, that's my front yard! .. and sure there are nice places around here (especially if you have the Buck$)... however.. deep South Texas ia a pit and an ugly place. It is windy and blasting hot and humid over one-half the year.. overcast and sometimes drizzly and gusty windy for a couple of winter months and if you're lucky you can enjoy a couple of weeks of nice weather somewhere in there... use that to pick up after the hurricanes!
.
I'm not joking, it's awful here.. consider $300.00 a month to water the lawn! I don't know why I stay except that I was born and raised here and I'm accustomed to a lot of that.. of course now we have about a million people in our metro-area (the single most economically depressed area of it's size in the US) so it's no longer a sleepy place.. wall-to-wall cars and trucks and people 24/7. And many people here have no sense of community.. trash blows everywhere, sticks in the trees, on the fences.. on your AC condensor! Life here would be impossible 8 months out of the year without air conditioning. Back to the trash issue.. it's everywhere.. people walk out of stores, unwrap everything and let the wind take the boxes and bags and whatever.. even furniture packaging! I took the plastic liner from a queen-size mattress off a tree in my yard last week.. the 35MPH BREEZE was about to tear the tree from the ground with that sail on it.
.
Trash fills all the ditches and canals.. big stuff like cars and refridgerators, little stuff like plastic toys and shopping carts! You can't walk down the street without stepping aropund the broken bottles and cigarettte butts and filthy disposable diapers! .. in the curb and on the sidewalk.. weeds and stumpy thorny shrubs cracking up the pavement and dust and dirt and filth over everything.
.
REALLY, I am not joking.. don't let a few photos or a tourist brochure fool you.. South Texas is a hole.. even the US government gave up on it years ago.. 100 miles NORTH of our border with Mexico armed federal officers stop everybody and interview them.. you, me, everybody. Try that on for size in YOUR home state and see what it's like!
.
Any way.. that's the truth on those subjects.
