Are your pictures out of focus? if that is the case then you are trying to focus closer than your camera can focus. See if your camera has macro mode, which could be denoted by a small flower graphic. This will allow you to focus closer.
I use Nikon cameras, coolpix 3200, N80, F100 and D70s, and a large collection of lenses, I take a lot of pictures, just last month I took more than 5000, but I haven't taken any pictures of my snakes or spiders in more than a year.
this are 2 of the last pictures I took of my pets, I used the point and shoot for this ones.

Thanks. I'll try it.

Courtney,
The HP Photosmart 435 is fixed focus (36mm), so it doesn't have macro capabilities. You can still take good pics with it, though. Just move in (safely) to the closest distance of focus, then move out 1" and snap the pic. That will give you a little "wiggle room" in case you wobble when pressing the shutter button. ENJOY!

If Im outside my cam does pretty well, inside is horrible! I dont have Macro on my Camera, that I can find, anyways. I still have the manual, and I couldnt find anything about it.
I got some decent pics of the Alligator Snapper I though though..But not the in depth scale counts most people's pics have. I'd kill to have a camera and the ability to take pics like Rene Garcia's pics of the Tarantula! Im not a big Arachnid lover, but those pics are incredible!
BW Smith and Gus have some great pics. I am pretty broke, so finding a digi cam that would take pics like THAT may not be anything I can do in the near future
So for now, I will just salivate over the pics

Thanks for the comment about my pictures, the camera that I used for the picture of the boa and the tarantula is the Nikon 3200, it's a 3 MP point and shoot, I only paid $170 for it, that was almost 2 years ago, it's a great little camera, but it's been discontinued.
You can get good digital cameras for less than $200 now, take a look a the Nikon 5600, Canon A530, or the Sony S600, those are good cameras with good image quality, I've seen some great 11*14 in. prints from those cameras, you can check the specs. for those cameras here
