Nikon: 80-200 f/2.8 ED or 80-400 VR?

I know there are a few Nikon users out here; anyone have expierience with either of these? I have heard the AF on the VR is a tad slow (not Interal Focus). Anyone used either or both lens on F100 or D100? I'm wondering just how slow the "slow" is that everyone is talking about. Anyway.. for anyone who has used both... any preferance?

I got to spend some time with the 80-400VR on my D70 and found it to be fine unless you are trying to catch some real fast moving action. For most wild life shots it was fine. i have not been able to get my hands on the 80-200 so I cant help you on that one.
The worst part about that lens was when I had to give it back

If you have a Nikon digital SLR, any autofocus nikon mount lens will work although some of the older ones won't do some things the newer ones will. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra bucks and get D series lenses. G series lenses are cheaper, lighter weight and work well but only work on cameras with electronic aperature control. They are useless on ...say and old Nikon FM2 because they have no aperature ring. Aperature (f-stops) can only be controled on the LCD panel through electronics. D series lenses, although designed to work with the Digitals and allow you to get the most out of your digital Nikon, also work quite well with 35mm AF SLRs. Sorry, I've never used a VR lens.
