Ap local pet store owner is on trial for feeding a live kitten to a 10.5 ft burm python. He did this durung store hours in front of customers and other employees. This happened in early September the last I have heard according to the news paper arcives, is that he is facing up to 500.00 in fines and 12 months in jail. He is being charged with crulty to animals. His argument is that he should be able to feed his animals what ever he wants. I am planning on contacting the county attourny in the next day or two to see what else is going on with the case. I din't know where else to put this post and I was wondering what you guys would have to say about this. You can read the articals at www.somerset-kentucky.com use the search option and click arcives then type fish n friends into the search bar. Anything you would like for me to tell the attourney?

although burmese can certainly eat what ever they want, in captivity they are usually fed mice/ rats/ and rabbits who are soley bred for that purpose! bred to be feeders. and when they get huge, they buy lg rabbits or pigs (sometimes baby goats), all raised for the purpose of feeding large reptiles too!
im sure a petstore can find a rabbit anywhere, if not he can order one to feed the python. sounds like this guy had some weird fantasy to see this. this is not a normal feeding practice by zoo's, professional herpetologists, and those in the hobby!
this does sound like a case of animal cruelty and negligence (with the python) because who knows what else he will do to "show off" his big snake!
that person is a moron. i even go as far to say he should not be in charge or own a store! who the #$%^$%^$%^$%^& knows what kind of info hes passing on to the new comers that really pisses me off

Hi there;
WELCOME TO REDTAILBOA.NET!!!
HMM..There is a line that needs to be drawn when feeding our snakes I take it this was not a kittem that had died or such prior to the feeding ? AND to do such in front of customers at that ? WTF ? You could place any of this type of news on our home page..just click on the links to add news..ot's on the left side bar of the site on all the pages. Once you do that it will show up on our home page for all to see. I'll leave this thread here anyway. If i have time I'll go and write that up on the news OR you could even do that for us. Thanx for the info.. Be sure to let us know what you do find out on this case also please.

No two ways about it, he commited a crime and deserves to be punished for it. It takes a pretty sick & twisted piece of trash to do what Jones did. Saidstic freaks like him deserve to bunk with Bubba.
Also, if I remember the text of the law, he's also in violation of the Animal Welfare Act, which is a Federal offense.

He broke the law, simple as that.
As a store owner he knows, or should know the law better than the average person.
He DOES NOT have the right to feed his reptiles what he feels like, especially due to the widespread availability of feeders, such as rabbits, jumbo rats, etc.
He was trying to get a reaction and he got one.
We will probably see the real truth come out at his trial, such as the cat had scratched him , or he just doesn't like cats.
If any one on this site or anywhere else that I knew or found out about doing some thing such as this, then they would get a serious A$$ whipping before the police got there to pull me off of them.
Anyone that does this is not a true herper and does not deserve to own any other kind of animal either.
You can tell the lawyer what I said here.
p.s. I don't like cats that well either, but I have other ways of dealing with that other than feeding them to a snake.

I joke about this kinda thing from time to time....and I really don't much like cats. I don't hate them or wish anything bad to happen to them....I just don't usually seek their company. But I have to agree....this guy is sick and needs his butt kicked....$500 ??? That should be alot higher.

Yeah, this guy crossed the line. I don't like cats, but that's too much...especially a kitten (I do make occasional exemptions to policy for kittens). $500 is not near enough of a fine for this POS. Surely there were other food sources available...
I read the article..noticed the part about KY law forbidding the fighting of 4 legged animals...is KY one of the few states left that allows roosterfighting?

I'v been to the pet sroe a couple times they have several large rabbits there that could have been used for food. He said he was demonstrating how snakes eat. He is still the owner of the pet store but he currently doesn't have any large snakes just a couple Garter snakes.
