I don't know how many people in here live in Chicago, but do not buy ANYTHING from Animal Kingdom! That place is the nastiest pet store I've ever seen...I feel SO sorry for every single animal in there. They actually have mixed breed dogs in there for $450...it is seriously an insane place. They have this poor coyote running back in forth in a cage near the ceiling...sickening.

I totally agree with you. What a joke. Someone should seriously call the authorities on them. Animal Cruelty. On top of that, the staff knows nothing about the animals. I can't believe they are using a very low wattage florescent light bulb for chameleons. No drippers, no heating lamp. The poor things are skin and bones. Don't get me started on their snakes. Not to mention the poor monkey. They need to be shut down.

Unfortunately that store has been in business it seems since the dawn of time. They used to have tigers, bears, and monkeys in there when i was growing up. The place it a TOTAL HOLE!!! I agree it's one of the worst in the city. but yet it stays in business.

Ever heard the saying, "You get what you pay for"? A heftier price tag would mean the difference between buying a healthy animal, and buying an animal from the above store that is most likely sick.

The real sad thing is though Bry that store is ANYTHING but cheap. When I was looking to buy my first snake I went there. if I recall correctly their boas were tiny and they wanted I think $140-160.00 for a common BCI, the Ball pythons were sickly looking and they still wanted i think $90.00 for them. And as was Stated they know absolutely nothing about the animals, nor did they have caresheets for them.
If you are looking for a good pet store for herps. Chicago Reptile House in Orland park is real good, they know their information on their stuff, and fairly reasonably priced. I have also heard good things about Glenn Ellyn Pet Center (Never been there though)
So you can't really go by price of animals when going to look for herps. You really have to take a good look at the whole store, and see how they care for their animals.

yup, that is very true to an extent, thats why rescues and adoptions are just that..that isnt always the case, but--for the majority, yes. there are few pet stores that actually do take proper measures to ensure their animals..wish there were more, it would make life soo much easier..lol

Glen Ellyn Pet Center is a decent place. The guy breeds most of the snakes he sells. He also sells frozen rodents but they are a little overpriced.
