Reptster
I think there is enough here in this linked thread that it would be a service to alert those who may be thinking of shipping reptiles. I am not in any way trying to open a debate here, I am merely trying to link some information so that those involved in shipping reptiles can have the benefit of information on which to make their choices:

Re: Reptster
Aside from the dispute there is quite a bit of good info in the thread about setting up ones own account with companies like Fedex and asking for shipping discounts, and even a link to a company that sells reasonably priced shipping supplies. I think it is a worthwhile read for businesses and individuals alike even though it has become a very long thread.

Re: Reptster
Wow. That is a long thread. Couldn't get through the whole thing...but the situation does suck...
But to be honest, even though that guy might have not followed transactions agreed by word (it's a sad reality that this doesn't even matter to people anymore), their shipping service is still quite nice, especially if you are like me and ship *maybe* 2-3 reptiles a year tops.
I hope that at the end of that long thread something was worked out eventually: I never got to the end of it.

Heh. Yeah, it's a long read. I saw the posts you're talking about. The prices are very reasonable!
(Should have been "I had been" not "I have been" in my last post.)

Re: Reptster
I'm a member of Reptster and enjoy the low shipping prices. David returned all the calls I made to him with questions about shipping, website hosting, etc. He seems like a good guy. He did say he would start having a membership fee to be able to post classified ads and get the shipping discount. I'll have to see what it is and weigh my options.

Careful Lucille, David doesn't like it when you say anything about him.

Re: Reptster
I'm a certified FedEx shipper.. but I don't understand Repster and how it circumvents the vetting process for FedEx shippers.. Personally, I'm for shipping costing less but I'm not for anybody who wants to shipping live animals cheap.. The whole idea worries me.
.
Hope that helps.

The way I saw it was it's still through FedEx and he was just able to get a volume discount since he had so many customers (ie members). I also heard it is a pain and rather expensive to get certified, but I admit I never fully researched it out on my own.
What do you mean by "vetting process"? Your input is always appreciated Gus!!

Re: Reptster
If you want to ship live animals directly via FedEx you have to prove financial responsibility, give them a sample of your shipping materials, labelling and so-on and agree to a comprehensive customer guide.
.
Maybe if you can't meet the reasonable requirements of FedEx it seems a 'pain' .. but knowing your vendor can prove some responsibility are things a buyer should appreciate more than a few bucks saved on shipping! .. so far, my customers all agree.
.
I don't see the incentive for FedEx to maintain the Repster deal, it costs them a lot of money and no one gains long-term as far as I can tell except perhaps the promoters of Repster.
.
If you are Repster user I guess enjoy it while you can. Smart people at FedEx will shut it down at some point.
.
That's my thoughts on that.

Re: Reptster
Y'all can go review the thread linked and learn (I did) more about shipping to have more knowledge at your disposal when it can time to make your own decisions. I actually knew little about the process and have learned quite a bit as I read what people wrote there.
I do not want to carry the debate there, to here, out of respect for this board's policies so I ask that y'all go along with me on this so that this thread can stay up. The way I see it, it is fine to talk here about how shipping works as long as we do not weigh in on the disagreement.

Re: Reptster
Getting certified by fedex is a bit of a hassle,as many of the people at fedex are completely inexperienced with the whole process.
But getting certified is FREE,which is great.
I have not checked out repster to much.Being Certified is a good idea though.
