I didnt mean to start anything, but I really don't think that word is apropriate, it bugs me when people use it in that way. Don't get all in huff about it.

First off it is very defensive to people that do have disabilities. And also to their family. If you had a family member that has been called retarded by some jerk then you would know how painful it is to see them hurt, because of someone's ignorance. It is mean and degrading. I have never corrected any one on here for their actions but this is not right. And yes my sister has disabilities that were caused from her having seizures as a baby and as a young child. I hope and pray that you will never ever have a family member or a child that will go thru life unable to lead a normal life. Thankyou :censored:

Actually, I do. The word retard itself has no other real meaning than what is provided in a dictionary:
Retard - slow something down: to slow or delay the progress of something.
If you choose to give the word some kind of personal meaning or power, then that is your burden to bear. If we're all allowed to assign personal meaning or power to other descriptive words and have them disallowed, I would like "short", "old" and "balding" added to the list (for no real reason).
