Well, I know most of you are anti-petco, as am I. But, I'm in desperate need of a job right now and do NOT want to work at McDonalds. I'm in college for a BFA in Graphic Design anve I have years of experience with computers but noone seems to want to hire me since im 22.
So, the local PetCo here has probably 10-15 snakes on average.. even though the snakes seem to be taken care of, the living conditions are questionable. I'd like to work in that department so I can personally see to it they are properly maintained. I would also tell the manager this so she could understand that her employees arent idiots..but dont need to be giving customers the wrong advice and wonder why their snakes dont survive.
You all scream 'close down PetCo!' and I think thats the WRONG way to go about this. How about instead of closing down stores that maintain an importance to the pet community, the ones of us looking for jobs.. whether full-time or part-time, college kids, etc.. offer to work there, fix the problems first hand and educate the other employees on this matter.

It's not neccessarily the closing down of such that people want. It's the ethical treatment of the animals they sell, especially the reptiles.
So why not go and get a job with them and see if you can make a difference ?

1 person can make a big difference in a place. I say go for it. Just be sure to let them know you want to take over the reptile section and mybe change the reputation they have.

No its not necessarily closing down. And working there might not help either since it seems to be uppermanagement that causes the problems. Go for it and work there if you want. Maybe you can get us some info on why it's so bad there but if you tried to make major changes, while I wish you luck, it may be a lot more difficult than you realize.

u might actually make a difference. Ive already seen one good petco in D.C. (i got a pac man froggy ) the tanks were nicely set up, with humidity and all and the snakes seemed healthy. only thing is they were so scared of the milipede I almost got. who knows, u might educate the store.

Wow, much to my suprise I went to PetCo today in Hermatige TN and talked to the manager. He is not only a frickin snake enthusiast, but he used to run Bob Clarks facility in IL (i think he said illinois), and his brother is friends with Peter Kahl. His name is Chuck incase anyone might be friends with Bob Clark and knew his people.
I sat and talked with him for about 2hrs today and he seems to know a helluv alot, espcially more than me lol. He runs all of his snakes through quarantine as they come in, to make sure they are eating properly, no mites and so on. I was impressed.. but still put an application in
