Hi, all..
I continue to notice all the Georgia peeps here. I live about 25 miles north of Atlanta, and am looking for a GOOD herp vet in the area. I only have about 2 to choose from here locally, and while one is OK, he just doesn't have the knowledge I would prefer. He understands the basics; ie: check-up's, worming, knowledge of med's, even uthinised (sp) one of my veiled's. He considers himself an exotics, but something tells me to keep looking.
For those of you in the Atlanta area, can you recommend who you use? Who is THE best for snakes? Money is not an issue--the well being of my repts are.
Thanks,
J

I haven't been able to find one....I usually actually look for non-herp vets ...set up a patient file with one of my animals....have another blank file for rescues...and just go to them to get what meds I need. So far it has always worked out well for me.

There is a great herp vet in Snellville, Ga.
He doesn't hit your wallet too hard and will crack some jokes with ya while he works!

LOL Eddie
Avalon Animal Hospital in Lawrenceville is pretty good...there is a vet and a vet tech there that are fairly knowledgable with herps and they handle exotics. They are really good with birds. Before taking any snake with anything serious to any Vet though....I would seek at least some advice here. Herpers tend to snakes daily...even the best herp vets see very few and while they may have a lot of knowledge, they lack experience.

Nothing is wrong with my snakes, this was a FYI question. I like to get my repts on regular 6 month check up's, and thankfully, have had only a few emergencies in between. Just wanted to know who is out there, maybe spec. in snakes. And though you can get expert help here, when a real emergency arises, you wanna know where is the best to go. Thanks

unfortunatly...due to quack vets and no real fear of malpractice reprocussion....many times a non-emergency is overmedicated and results in the death of an animal due to a vet's lack of expertise in reptiles or other exotics. or an emergency is misdiagnosed because many of them don't know what is normal and what is not....so please....trust me....in most cases, you will get better help right here.
BTW...you are local...if you would like, you can bring fresh stool samples here for fecal floats and smears. I'm fairly well equiped for such and don't mind doing them for free.

Eddie,
Can you give me the name of the vet in Snellville? He sounds good, especially if you recommended him.

LOL...Im no vet...I never even finished college...I just have had pretty good success fixing broke reptiles over the years....I can help you with somethings and know enough to know when to send you to a real vet or what to do with pretty much anything that doesn't require surgery.
