Good point dragon!! we definatly don't want this to backfire. I think a really good approach would be to contact petco, tell them what the intent is, let them respond, and give them a chance to fix it. there is always a good possability that the ceo's and such are totally anaware of the problem. it might be a better corse of action to give them a chance to fix the problem on their own.

here's an idea, why don't we write a letter, and all somehow "sign" it, and send it to petco. or we can all individually write letters. I just think we should contact them first somhow, and use the website as a last resort, but eitherway, somthing definatly must be done! my .02 -Juggalo

Yeah as far as my petco is concerned, they are very clean and their enclosers are adequate. Although some of the staff was underknowledged and I caught them at every turn. The manager of the store who owns two of them pushed me off when I came back and told him that my hot side temps were only reaching 77 degrees. He said that was hot enough but I didn't accept that and did some more research and fixed it myself and now have temps of 85-87 during the day.. Also, they set me up with a trilight system which I like because it holds my light for the tank and the little nighttime reptile light that gives it that little "moonglow" effect, but I would have given those up if I could have saved 80 bucks :\ I also peeked in the red tail boa cage and noticed the temp was 100 degrees F..it was one of those strips so I may have misread it but I asked the guy anyway and he said he would check it..I will be checking that when I return for snake food..That is my experiance with petco.

I didn't read all this thread (leaving for home in a min..) But, there is a group at yahoo
called PetNo... a bunch of us from all diff walks of life (rabbit rescues, bird rescues,
rat rescues (YES) and reptile rescues) trying to work together, writing letters, making
calls, doing pickets, etc to try to get Petco to stop selling live animals. Go to
groups.yahoo.com and search for PetNo. Also while there, I did a report on one of
my local petcos and took pictures of the conditions of the animals... there is one pic
(very bad pic..) of about 10 russian torts crowded into a tank, all were at the back
either waiting for food?? or trying to stay warm.. I know the pic isnt' good, but it's hard to
take pictures (esp when the dang auto-flash goes off!! lol)...
Anyways, I encourage anyone who is tired of seeing neglected animals at Petco to join
the group.. sign up for digest since there are a lot of messages every day... after PetCo
then the next target is PetSmart.
Yes, sometimes a single person CAN make a difference

I agree with BoaMaster on this one...my local petco is one of the nicest pet stores around. In fact, thats where ive gotten most of my reptiles. They have sales all the time and sell stuff for fairly cheap. I bought 2 healthy nice and fat, almost adult leopard geckos for 50 bucks, my red tail for 79 and my baby CB ball python for 40. Never had any health problems with any of them. I think sometimes they dont realize what they are selling though...they had juv water dragons marked as green anoles and i got 5 for like 6 bucks each(bought all they had and sold them for 20 each)! I remember someone posting that they had red tegus for like 50 bucks? Thats pretty cheap! They have a fairly decent selection of animals, and they always are very nice to me and anyone ive ever sent there. They always keep there cages clean and there stock looks to be in excellent health and well fed.

Just thought I'd pop this topic back up to the top since it has been brought up again. Very interesting about PetNo, we'll have to *conspire* with them or something. Hehehe

Interesting, a friend of mine is nursing a petco leo back to health who hasn't eaten since November. When she took it to the vet they inquired "is this another Petco case?". Hopefully she can get some hard data from them about the animals they've seen from Petco.
