I know it's nothing new or shocking, but I just got home and no one else would understand.
I go to this locally owned, small pet store/feed store that is usually fantastic about their reptile care (the REASON I go there and not to petsmart.)
I went in there today, and there is this tiny little "Red tailed boa" (All boas are "red tail boas" in the pet store world, after all.) that was in the worst condition I have ever seen....
Its skin was like a big paper bag had just been crumpled around it, it had retained eyecaps, mouth rotted up and hanging open all gnarled, breathing through it's mouth, trying to pass obvious impaction (there was a -visable- lump just behind it's vent and it was straining hard trying to push it out, with just a little of it visable where the vent opened with white stuff and bark-litter)
Just a sick animal. They had him on old, used dirt/bark-litter..... There was lizard feces and old crickets obviously visable in the litter.
They have him in this little cage the size of one of those critter carriers... Not enough toom to stretch out even half his body, with NOTHING but dirt and a filthy water bowl...........
So I got up to one of the cach register girls and tell her that he is in awful shape, and she tried to tell me they just got him in... and that is why he looks like that.
I walk off to cool down, and come back and a manager is there looking at him, and says that she will look at him more when he's not striking at her. SHE tells me that he was only brought to her attention today, and said that she did notice his mouth rot, but that he only looks that way because he didn't eat his mouse this morning?!@
Ugggh.
