Angry petco is gettin on my nerves...

I was at petco and I don't know why I did it but I asked if I could hold on of there baby rtb's and they said no because one was aggesive and so was one of there ball pythons and corn snakes. They said they were going to 'get rid' of them as soon as possibe. I was so mad! u should see how many snakes are in one cage, there was only one hide in the balls cage and there was like 10 snakes in the 15 gallon tank! and there wasn't even a hide in the rtb's cage... I even told them that there are to many snakes in that cage, they need a hide, etc...and u know what they said? They said they want to keep them like that because they enjoyed seeing the people pass their cages! I was like WTF?!:cuss2: They probably think that just cuz I'm 14 I'm a complete retard... man that ruined my whole day..

Most employees at Petco's talk nonsense to customers. I was at Petco today and on the "label" for the RTB's, it said, "Can be housed with similar sized boa constrictors."

Yes of course they can, but they shouldn't be housed together except for breeding... dorks. Most petcos are like that.. there's nothing you can really do.

Did they say how they were getting rid of them?

The petco here had a pair of black racers..... real mean, high strung suckers. Nobody would get them out for me, and they were real weary of even letting me get them because I look like I don't know anything. Pfft... Needless to say, I eventually got them. I couldn't get them the first day though because the employees there were too chicken to get them out, so I had to wait until the more confident employee came to work to get them out for me. They kept trying to hold them to calm them down, but there was no way they would... they are always high strung racers.

generally by means of adoption.
thats how I got my agressive boa, that used to go after everyone but once he became mine he was the sweetest snake ever... go figure eh?

sad part is they were afraid of him, and he was probably under 2'

But they said they needed to get rid of them because they were not sutable for adoption...they probably don't even handle them..man I wish I could just go there and take him away

Yeah that's what I would do.

I'd go there if I could and demand that I take them home, myself.

Petco in Fort Wayne, IN saw the last of me and Mousey last Monday. It was my second visit there and I should have known better then going back again, but I couldn't help myself. There were seven BP's averaging 18" in a 20 gal tank. Two of them appeared to still have their eyecaps on, one had a double shed still stuck to it, all had pieces from a bad shed stuck to them. The one with the double shed really just about put the tears into my eyes, cause it was just laying there totally lethargic, all wrinkled up and dehydrated beyond imagination.
I can't just go and adopt all the snakes that I know aren't being housed and/or treated right (my hubby would so make me sleep in the dog house!), therefore the only thing I can do is not go there anymore and forget that Petco exists. ... That is so WRONG - denying a problem doesn't solve it.

Now I get to tell my PetCo saga AGAIN

I went to PetCo Weds to buy a F/t small rat for my cornsnake. Usually their small rats are SMALL. I got a very LARGE SMALL rat out of the bag marked ADULT SMALLS, and went on to pick up a few more things.
When I went to check out, I noticed the cashier was a N00b, OH NO..
So she grabs the bag and I told her what was in it.
She mushes it around a little bit, "Nope that feels like a Large to me" and proceeds to ring up a LARGE rat..
I said, "No its a small, but its a big small..You can look and see"
"I dont like rats" she says, and then immediately pages a supervisor to the front.
Once the supervisor gets there, she tells the supervisor that there is NO way my rat is a small rat, and asks if she should just charge for a large.
The supervisor, who has seen me countless times, said, "nope its a small, our shipment was of smalls were really big"
So I give the Murophobe my money and wait patiently for my change..She closes the drawer, and then has the gall to say to me "Im through with you now"
So I told her, "umm, not till I get my change"

Thats not the first freak without a leash Ive dealt with at a Pet Store. I think most people agree..If you are scared of an animal they sell, you dont need to be working in a pet store!

yeh are petco is terrible too, the people are nice and all but dumber than rocks, heres one of my favoritest stories of petco

my friends 16 birthday was coming around and his parents decided to buy him a ball python, we went to a little petstore and got a little ball python, then i got in a big argument with the people that undertank heating was better than heat lamps and they have had lots of snakes die from undertank heating, so i finally was like well i guess jeff ronne and bobclark and all those guys just have it wrong, you better go let them know and walked out, lol so then me, my friend and his parents went to petco and we bought some frozen frostbite rats from them and the lady was all do you have uv light for the snake? she said "snakes require uv light to digest calcium or their bones will get brittle and they will die" so i got into with her too on that cuz my friends parents dont know anything about snakes so i was trying to make sure they werent misguided, the petco lady also told me heat lamps were better, sooo.....thats my story,

ps. if heat lamps and uv is required for my snakes someone let me know! cuz everything i have seen says no... :P

I use heat lamps, and UTHs, no problems with either, given I keep the humidity up somehow, and dont allow the snake access to the light
As far as UV, at least she recommended it for SOMETHING, the PetCo here told me my Water Dragon didnt need any kind of special lamp!

I must say that I am a petco employee first of all and while i'm not trying to take up for every petco employee out there, but I am taking up for myself and the better part of my store. I am very knowledgable on my herps (not saying that I'm a pro). On the other hand, I have been to another store that most of the people were dumb as a rock. I guess my point is please don't put us all in a general column just cause some of the other stores don't know what they are doing.

its just a chain. they open stores based on economics regardless of what population they have to pick an employee base from . id assume they give people a specific area to be an expert in and general training of the rest?

i dunno all the petcos i have gone to are only good to buy prepacked non live items

the "snake" expert tells everyone to feed live because its more natural @ mine

The one here in Rogers or the one in Fay., Court? I was at the one in Rogers on Thur. or Friday LOL. To get Feeder fish and pinkies. I was not please w/ this one in Rogers at all. All the rosy red feeders were tiny tiny and tons were dead she says the only other stuff they have are the gold fish. The big reg. gold fish?? They dont have earthworms, The pinkies and fuzzies were a joke in size as well. Our discussion was over a fuzzie and a pinkie. fuzzie wasnt even fuzzie and smaller then the pinkies im feeding now!
Now the poor lizards oh one was so skinny you could just see nothing but skin. it was awful. They never no what they are talking about either and they always say i have a such and such at home and this is what i do. oh well. I dont know what to do.

The neighborhood petco here is only good for one type of thing DRY GOODS. Alot of those are cheaper than at specialty shops. But still not as cheap as your everyday WALMART SUPERCENTER. Anyway the BPs there are all starved wrinkly little guys that have 4 minimum in a 10 gal. At least here they have hides and lots of folliage in all the cages.

One question: Is their water ever clean??? Of course with THAT many animals, they could hire someone to sit and just change water and thats it, and still keep them busy LOL..

The Rogers PetCo has a new reptile guy, the old one, whom I adored, Blake, quit and walked out, gave the management the one-fingered wave and told them where to go and what to eat when they got there! Apparently the store manager is NOT a nice person..Ive met him BRIEFLY, the same one that told me they "dont just hire anyone off the streeet to work there"
The guy that took Blake's place seems really nice, I hope they manage to keep him. Apparently Blake left, because they refused to listen to his input on the reptiles.
