I went with my wife to a county fair here on the Island a few days ago and you know how they have those stands where you can win a goldfish?
Well, they were giving out green Iguanas! So, 6-7 year old kids were walking away with baby green iguanas! What the f!
Anyway, I was talking to a friend of mine that was there and it turns out that they were giving out care sheets with the iguanas.
This is what the care sheet had to say. (I'm not quoting as it's not in front of me)
1- keeping them warm is very important, provide a heat rock...
2- he will only get as big as his enclosure, 10 gallon tanks are good.
3- he will eat crickets, worms, pinkies and vegies...
Now tell me. HOW CAN THIS BE LEAGAL? wouldn't you have to get a permit to give away iguanas? wouldn't you think it would be supervised?

That is so mean to do that. I would tell that person you should not do that because it can kill the iguanas.

That bites! Once they get big they most likely will be abandoned. These are the reasons why there are so many Iguanas in need of rescue.

The same thing happend a couple yrs. ago at our local fair. They were handing out baby iguanas. A few days after the fair had left our local Herp Society/Rescue was flooded with a couple hundred little sick iggys. The next year, the Fair tried the same thing but our Herp society got the booth shut down before they had a chance to do it again.

That happens a lot, but not as often as it once did.
The reason they say they only grow as large as their enclosure is because many will be dead with in just a few short days.
Just make a complaint and get as many others to call in and complain to the shelters, animal control etc and maybe next time in town they will be denied permits for operation.
And they give iggys away since the unusual is more of a money draw than the norm, ie- goldfish.

I meant more $$$ drawn in for the booth.
Oddness sells and the more drawn into the game, the more $$$ they make.
