serpent safari
this place is horrible. i walked in thinking itd be a great place. i look in one of the cages, and the first thingi notice is a patch of skin missing off a jungle carpet's tail. i ask about it, and they say they recieved her like that, and shes not for sail until it heals. alright, np. then i notice something moving on their RTB's nose... mites. they offer a tour of their back room where they have all these different animals. so i go on it. they have 3 yellow anacondas all in the same cage, two are about 2 1/2 ft,skinny as can be, another about 6, round as a log. again, i bring this up, and they say its perfectly fine, i ask about feeding, she tells me the two little ones are removed, the big one is fed in the cage, while the two little ones seperately, then placed back in.
list goes on and on of all the other reptiles they have back there
overall cleanliness of the store is disgusting as well.
id recomend you just avoid the place if your ever at gurnee mills mall here in IL.

I thought the store was awful as well...almost everything was in plastic critter keepers, and way overpriced. There was a young twenty something employee walking around with a 6 foot albino burm that obviously missed quite a few meals! The employee was telling us that the snake had a pink belly because it was done shedding, and snakes are most vibrant when they are finished shedding!
Not worth the trip!

Re: serpent safari
Hi guys, sorry to bump up an old post, but I've just been given an interview at this place. I'm a little conflicted because I'm in desperate need of a job, but this place is kind of sketch. The iguana was in terrible condition, and last time I was on the "tour" in about 2005 I remember a nile croc being kept in a closet sized enclosure.
Should I attempt to get the job? I'm leaving for college in the fall anyway so should I just let them pay me and then report them right before leaving?
Some animals seem to be kept well, and some are appaling. I wonder how they even get away with it.
Your oppinions?

Re: serpent safari
Heck yes. It seems from what people have said on the thread that staff make a BIG difference. Don't go just to get paid, go and put your heart into it and maybe you'll do some lasting good.

Re: serpent safari
Lou is a pretty nice guy, get to know him and maybe you can help clean the place up. My biggest problem with the place were the monitors and lack of soft substrate.

Re: serpent safari
I have an interview tomorrow. I'm really going to try and present myself nicely even though I'll probably have to dye my hair back to normal.
