I like the crocodilians and have worked with several different species.
Got some pics posted here if you're interested. - http://www.reptilians.org/reptiles-a...ocodilians.htm

very nice gator. and nice pic of it, too. plenty of croc enthusiasts, just not many who keep 'em. and welcome to the site.

Do you have a plan for when he gets big? I have seen some setups where people have fencing put up indoors with ponds and everything....pretty impressive.

American alligator was my first reptile.
I learned all about MBD and full spectrum lighting, calcium and how STUPID I really was. My poor guy suffered due to bad info from an unqualified vet. I was told it was a Caiman that would grow to a size I could care for but I did not have the facility at the time to care for a 12-foot gator, I had to give her up. I miss her terribly to this day and it’s been over 12 years now. I even have her pic in my wallet! How strange is that!!! You are so lucky; they are adorable when they call out to you…

They "call" out to you?
I really know very little about captive care or captive relationships with them...are they intelligent?

they are very intelligent, every time i open the cage he knows im bringing him food. all around they are quite docile, ive never been hit by him cause he rarely gets mad. i couldnt say the same for a croc though

I think it was more of a feeding response. Not really emotional. It was cute though…like a grunt.
I do find them to be intelligent in that mine seemed to have a bit more of a curious interest in all around her like with my Asian water monitor where my iggys stand back until there sure its safe my gator and monitors are fearless. They approach anything as if to eat or at least investigate it.

With an average growth rate of a foot per year, not that much time.

You may want to check CA state laws, last time I checked crocodilians were still illegal to keep in CA.
