basilisks

Hi!
I'm brand new to this website and I am in desperate need of help. I have rescued two female basilisks and don't know much about them and am having a hard time finding info. I have no idea how old they are, but they are about one and a half to two feet long, including tails. One is chunkier than the other, but has almost no toes (old wounds). This does not seem to be a problem, though. I have them in a 55 gallon tank with plenty of plants to climb and hide under, a vine to climb on, and a pool to drink from and swim in (kitty litter box). I have a 100 watt bulb, and a 60 watt heat coil, plus a 75 watt infrared bulb and a 60 watt nighttime bulb on the tank. The 100 watt day bulb is the only thing I turn off at night. I am a high school teacher, the tank is in my classroom, and it gets cold at night and on weekends. I am feeding supermealworms and gutloaded, dusted crickets, which they eat well. They will not eat fruit or veggies of any sort, nor will they eat mice pinkies. They are gaining weight, have no longer got mouth rot, and the wounds on their noses from rubbing on screen sides of a too small tank are gone. They seem fine, very active, rather skittish, but alert. Am I doing things okay? What am I missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please E-mail me. Thanks

Welcome to RTB.net! I know nothing, and to be honest, am only writing in hopes that a bump will help. Did you check all the lizard forums here, and do a general search? Someone will help you soon....Hello? Someone? Anyone? Need a little help here??

From my understanding (which is not much) of the basilisk you seem to be doing everything properly. One thing I might advise is make sure the smaller one is getting the proper amount of food. My guess is that it maybe possible that the other basilisk in the cage is being dominent and not allowing the other to eat as much...just a guess

One suggestion I can make with the veggies not being eaten is to try different color veggies and also put the mealworms in with the salad you create. I trickedd my Bearded Dragon into eating veggies this way. He would every once in a while pick up some veggies while getting the worms.

Be sure to change the water out in the cage frequently since most reptiles will urinate and deficate in water. One last suggestion is to throw gold fish in the water every once in a while and see if they respond to that
