I have had my chuckwalla now for about 8 months. Sheds have come and gone, taking chunks of skin here and there. The problem is that there are some parts of him that never seem to shed. He has actually lost two of his toes (before I got him), but he doesn't like to be handled and hates water, so misting him is a terrorizing experience for him. Any help?[addsig]

well he probably is shedding all over, maybe
you just didn't notice or see when a certain
area shed. (it's easy to miss sometimes..)
I don't know much about chucks, just that
they are dessert animals and puff up between
rocks when scared. I'd just mist him every
once in a while and provide a large water bowl
so he can soak if he wants. Is yours WC?
Most WC I've seen don't like to be handled.[addsig]

He is WC, but I got him from a guy who had owned him for a year. I can handle him, but when I first go to pick him up he hisses and tail swipes, then settles down if I remain pretty still. He already has a waterbowl, but I've never seen him visit it. I guess my quesiton is, if he is freaking out everytime I mist him, will it stress him out too much to mist him regularly?[addsig]

I just joined the list today so I hope I'm not too late in replying. We have a female chuckwalla at work. She is a Sonoran variety as far as we know as she showed up in one of my coworker's cars one day, and she was placed in the terrarium with the desert iguanas. (Even the local Game & Fish rep is jealous of her as he is the one who brought us the iguanas.) Her sheds also seem to be in pieces, but she hasn't lost any toes. Being a desert animal, they do not like to be sprayed with water. They will go down and drink when they want moisture or they get it from their food. If the WC variety comes from a more humid climate, the best bet is the provide a water dish in both the cool and warm sides of the terrarium to increase the humidity rather than stressing out the chuckwalla by spraying water, something that is probably a rare occurance in the wild.
Charlie does like to come out and climb on top of our heads or on top of the computers in the office to watch what is going on around her. They are quite friendly, but only on their terms. If she doesn't feel like coming out, forget it. She bloats up between her rocks and that's that. So we laugh about it and wait until she decides she wants to come out for her daily visit.
