New Mexico Lizard Pics

So we went out on some old 4-wheeling trails and stopped at one point to hike around a bit. There were quite a few lizards about for one place and I managed to catch pictures of three of them.

The first was a black and yellow spotted guy who had amazing camouflauge to the point where taking a picture of him was frustrating (that and the screen of the camera was in direct sunlight so I couldn't see where I was aiming).

This is the best picture I got of him, and its still pretty difficult to see, even after cropping it. He's dead center here, with his head partially covered by the branch going across:

This next guy had a super long tail. He was a good sport and sat there while I shuffled around trying to get a decent pic. He was one bush down from the first lizard pictured.

Aaannddd a bush down from that lizard, was this little guy. He was pretty small and understandably flighty but he had a curious streak a mile wide though I suppose they all did, wondering what in the world I was and if I was going to go away. After I took this photo and was headed back down the rock, he watched me with his little head over a tiny step in the rock. It was super cute and I got a picture of it, but I couldn't find his head in the picture, lol.

After we were headed back my sister pointed out another lizard on the rock and I lept out of our vehicle to get a picture. Its the same type of lizard as above, but twice as big and much less cautious. It was pretty much a diva, lol. I think its feet were pretty neat, hence this being my favorite shot of the day.

Most of these photos were cropped and I was a minimum of four feet away from all of them, but they still turned out pretty neat.

We also saw a tiny little snake probably not more then 12 inches, if that. I have no idea what it was, and we didn't get a picture because it dove under some rocks and we didn't feel like getting bit, nor stressing it out anymore so we moved on. It was red and black, the red fading off into the black and the stripes went horizontally down its back, not in a ringed pattern. I'd like to know what it was so if you have any ideas I'd welcome them. I doubt it was venemous but then, none of us were keen to find out.

No rattlers which was a meh, it would have been neat to see one but it wasn't imperative. There were a pair of owls though, and a hawk, all around this one gully where the lizards were which was pretty neat. (There was a four foot pool of water down between the rocks, which is why I imagine there was so much wildlife there) They were gone fairly quickly though. I'd imagine they didn't see many people and weren't hanging around to find out. No pictures of any of those.

All in all, not a bad outing

Re: New Mexico Lizard Pics

I'm not sure what any of these guys are myself but the green ones were vivd and blended in really well with the lichens. Really well. It was like playing I spy, you know its there, but you don't know where, lol.

I found the third ones head in the picture I mentioned. He had moved into the bushes when I moved and this is him peeking over the rock:

Thanks for the comments

I'd love to know what these guys are as well, if anyone finds out. I've been looking but I have no clue.

First image looks like a whiptail of some species.
second and third look like collard lizards.
and the last ones look like zebra tailed lizards (that lack the "zebra" part)
