I wasn't sure where to post this so feel free to move it if you must.

A freind of mine was questioning me on lizards as he is interested in getting one for him and his 10 yr old son. I'm not up on lizards so I told him I would ask around to see what people thought would be a good choice. He would like it to be on the smaller size, probably no bigger than a couple feet.

good beginner lizzys are leopard geckos and bearded dragons. they geckos are small in size and the beardies get maybe a foot and a half.

Bearded Dragon all the way!! I personally dont think there is a better beginner lizard. They have great personallities and are typically completly non agressive.
I had one a while ago (has since passed on) that I took to Seattle with me (about 2.5 hours drive 1 way) and walked around Seattle all day and drove home with her on my shoulder. She loved the attention (and so did I).
Beardies are awsome beginner pets. Warning though. Once you own your first reptile you will eventually want more.... Just make sure the Kids is either into Cars or reptiles (or whatever else) not both!!! I have a large reptile collection and my race car. consummes a lot of time and $$$$$

leopard geckos, definately. If your not breeding them, go for it because they are so beginner geckos. they're easy to take care of and to clean up after. Although they are not the most cheap gecko in the world ($40 average.), but they are beginner. if your going expensive id go wih the beardies. but if you want real cheap, well....geckos arent cheap- or should i say reptiles are not cheap! ......but mabye like a skink or newt or something in that range. dont do any kind of old wolrd chameleon. ummmm. well. thats all i have to say then. good luk with your friend!!!

well it depends on who you buy your gecko from. the same goes for beardies. geckos run anywhere from 15 bux to a few hundred. beardies on the other hand will cost you around 50 bux, but the "morphs" cost more. same for any species of reptile for that matter.the thing with geckos tho is the tail. if they feel frightend , they drop that tail at the slightest touch. beardies never do that. im a gecko person myself. but beardies are a good starter.

A newt is an amphibian, not a lizard

If it's for a 10 year old, he'll obviously want to hold it, and being that boys aren't that careful, I think I'd probably opt for the dragon.
