OK some people tell me I can't do this but can I. I live in Warner Robins GA & I found 2 skinks A five liend skink & a broad-headed skink I took them & put one in a 20 gallon & the other in a 20 gallon. I had them for a few years or so but now so people keep saying it is illegal to do it & some say it is aillegal to do it.

Have you ever seen 'em in a petstore here? Real easy rule of thumb: If petstores can sell it, you can keep it. Applies in most cases.

Heather. You live in Georgia. No animal native to georgia is legal to keep as a pet. There are exceptions to this rule. But none you really need to concern yourself with, ie: venomous snakes are legal to keep. You can use native lizards as fish bait but you can't keep them as pets....odd huh?

what exactly does.....oh nevermind. Do you just make up words sometimes? The opposite of illegal is legal.....you don't add letters. You take a couple away. lol

Hey look at this law I don't think it is real but look at it. I found it on a law page.
.Cats may not yowl after 9 pm in Columbus, Georgia; in Collingswood, New Jersey, no dog is allowed to bark or howl between the hours of 8 pm and 6 am. Dogs are not allowed on the streets of Provo, Utah, after 7 pm. And in Smithtown, New York, dogs can't bark for more than 15 minutes at a time (punishment for the third infraction is a $500 fine and a 15-day jail sentence).

Our country is filled with so many ridiculous laws that the ones you posted are probably correct and legal. Has anyone actually been arrested for the offenses you listed? Odds are no, with maybe one or two exceptions.
Whether it is legal or not, you are taking care of these animals, better then the "real" world. I am not an advocate of breaking the laws, but in some cases I think "what they don't know can't hurt them".
Warner Robbins, for those who don't know, has a huge military base located there. I should hope that local officials are more concerned with world peace then a couple of skinks.

thats right, plus I am keeping the skinks in good tanks & feeding them good & thay are happy. I do not just take a liveing thing from the wild & put it in a tank I care about them. & yes there is a huge military base here. I just live 3 miles away from it.

Ah yes, GA and its herp laws. I can tell you from firsthand experience, GA DNR is generally pretty lenient, so long as you aren't keeping indigos or any other endangered animal. That's about all I'm going to say about my run-in with them, aside from I didn't have any indigos- but I did have a few non-native snakes that I shouldn't have had in GA.

There is still a law on the books in Atlanta that states, when a motorist approaches the city limits of Atlanta, they are required to stop and blow their horn and wait for a police escort to get them through town. It seems that cars ripping through Atlanta once spooked the horses.

Let me get this straight Jules , in G.A. it's illegal to keep a native skink
but if you pick up an elapid & put it in a tank you can call it a pet??

correct...as long as the elapid is a local coralsnake. That's the only elapid we have here. My cornsnakes (which are far from endangered) are illegal even the ones that obviously came from Jasper County SC lineage because they only go by scientific name. Locale doesn't matter. If a species is native here...we cannot keep it. But Venomous snakes are not protected in Georgia. So....my copperheads and pygmy rattler are all legal.

No...it is illegal to sell native vens in georgia though, so you wot see them for sale in petstores. It is not illegal to keep them though. The only permits required for keeping vens in Georgia are for keeping non-native/exotic species. Oddly enough....to legally catch them, a small game hunting permit is required by law.
