WD Vet trip
I took my WD to the vet today, she checking him out and gave me some antibiotics to inject into a mealworm-to feed him. Along with some betadine.
I attempted to feed him the injected mealworm. He bit it, and spat it out as soon as he tasted it. I am still trying to get him to eat it but it is dead. I have it in the refridgerator right now. I am scared to feed it too him but he needs his medicine. I may have to get more (which is not ideal because it is over $30 CAD gas just to get there..) if he doesnt eat this but I am going to still use the betadine.

That's basically why I never give them medicine that way. You much better off using a syringe and forcing the issuie. This way you know he's getting what he needs.

You mean like sticking the needle in him? Or just forcing it through his mouth?

And can you buy Betadine from anywhere or is it only for vets? Because on Tricias page it says to bathe him in a tea coloured solution, but It is already a solution, and she told me to apply it right to the wounds (and it just runs off)

How much medicine did the doc perscribe and what kind was it?
I usually give all meds orally and directly. The only thing I have ever injected into food was supplements...and that was in a pinky.
You can pulverize the worm with the medicine--and try to inject the mixture through a wide syringe...is there a second dose??
Next time demand to do this yourself with no worm---theres like a 1% chance this animal will eat a dead worm and I'm being generous.

To open a lizards mouth for meds---you can gently pull on the chin area (very easy with beardies and a little tougher with some wd's)and many will open their mouths..have the meds ready and slip the syringe in and administer....or.....you can use a credit card or another flat hard item--some have used a soft spatula but I have always had luck just pulled on the lower area and working the meds in that way.
I really can't believe (I believe YOU I just cannot BElieve) that a vet gave you meds in a worm and sent you home with it. Man.
You have to go back--if you are having so many problems or are unsure and the doc wanted the animal to have ONE dose then why didn't she just give it to the animal in the office?
And why just one dose?

Green wd's can be that way but I could have told you this would happen with the worm---you cna open their mouths---I had a green that became very ill. I know what your going through---it's a pain.
But if you tug at the chin and work the syringe in at the same time---even the tightest mouth will open up for an instant.
The thing is though were you just supposed to give one dose?

I have never heard of one dose---but aside from that--and assuming I'm wrong:
you still need to get the meds in the lizard.
Unfortunately, I feel you'll have to go back to the docs or pulverize the worm asap and force feed him. When I brought my green to the doc he gave the animal the first dose in the office.
For now--since this whole thing was the vet's idea---call the office and ask what you should do. And be sure to come back and let us know because I for one and very curious to hear what he/she will say.

Partial success!
I got the worm, and tried and tried to get him to eat it. No success, I tried the spatula thing and all that, I did get him to open him mouth but he would continuoulsy flick his head away and snap his mouth shut. I squeezed some of the guts out and managed to get most of the guts in his mouth.
I a hoping! he got a good squirt of the medicine the first time he bit it (friday), which made him spit it out so quickly. And combined with what he got tonight, it may be enough to help untill we get in contact with the vet. Its a long weekend, in Canada at least, so its going to be a while (tuesday) before we can get in touch with them.
