Eating Questions for Green Basilisk??
why doesnt my basilisk eat daily? he ate 5-6 crickets one day. then, he wasnt eating again in next 1-3 days. after that, he ate again. why is that? am i doing something wrong? For the temp, his exactly basking spot which is on a branch and right under the light is around90-91F, and the rest is around85F. Beside, i am putting him in a 10g tank for now. after i finish building a 4'x2'x2' tank for my BP. i will put him in the 20g tank. Eventually, he will live in a 4'Lx3'Hx2'W tank which i will build when i have enough money again. you know, the 4'x2'x2' destoryed my wallet. any helps will be appreciated.

How's his color? Have you tried anyother feeders? Have you been handling him (if so try not to)? Lighting? water source?
10 gallons is too small.

his color is light green with a little bit gray. my friend who also has a basilisk said he is in shed period. i have tried mealworms when he doesnt eat crickets. but he just eat a few, then he is not eating again. i dont handle him at all unless he jump on the edge of the tank. for lighting, i use a Incandescent bulb. i will buy him a heat bulb with uvb later. i just use a water bowl for his water source. and i mist his cage 2-3 times a day.
i know 10 gallons is too small for him. but soon, i will put him in a 20g for a few months. then he will end up with a 4'Lx3'Hx2'W cage.

Don't know much about basilisks, so the only advice I can give you is to get everything bought and setup before you jump into the commitment of owning one.

The animal's appetite will decline without proper UVB and heat, an in the right combination. He needs a LARGE pool---but for now he at least should have a cat litter pan filled with water...and changed daily.
Once you get his environment right---everything else will happen naturally.

Yes, get some UV on him but also VARY his diet.
Monitor lizards are famous for their gluttony but mine would never eat crickets all the time, in fact, he pretty much hates the #$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^& things, sometimes even regurging them.
try locusts (they come in all sizes) which are much more appealing. also use waxworms if your lizard isn't feeding, it'll eat them like sweets! soft bodied feeder cockroaches are a real favourite for my monitor lizard also.
tried silkworms? they're good too, might be a bit big tho. You can buy UV day bulbs (screw in type) for about a fiver but should really get a decent tube as well.

yeah my small lizards never eat crix anymore at all--just a variety of worms, mouse pinks and salads.
Roaches rock but I just can't.

LOL the roaches aren't nearly as bad as i imagined! they pretty slow if you keep em cool, and don't look horrible in real life at all.
I just open the packet a little bit with my hands in my monitors viv and he just grabs one out of it - that way there's no chance i get a roach escapee!

I think people would never come to my house again---it's hard enough to expalin with the rats, snakes worms and lizards---and all the dead chicks in the freezer....but that would be it or most of my local friends (and my NY friends would all be "too far" suddenly to visit LOL
