Green Basilisk!!!!!!
does anyone know when a basilisk should have his crest appear??? i have a basilisk right now. i wish it is a male. but it is 4-6 months old now, which the guy in the pet store told me. so that guy still cannot tell me whether it is a male or female. i hope somebody can tell me that. and another question, how should i design his environment? i just want to give him a natural environment.any pictures for basilisk's tank???? any advises will be appreciated!!!!!

you really need a big enclosure for a basilisk....and a fairly large pool. I hope you have thought this through since not many people can keep a basilisk the right way.
Think green water dragon only much much larger as far as space.
The crest should be evident by the end of the first year-- sometimes much sooner.

I know someone on the WDlist who has one---or should I say he had a baby (I haven't spoken to him for a while) and he had the animal in a total water environment with rocks, trees and basking points coming out of the water with some nice lighting.
He had a fluval 404 system ---but that was when the animal was a baby.
At this time he probably has a much larger setup.
Basilisks can "walk on water" on their hind legs if given enough space.
They are very beautiful but their requirements are tough for the average keeper.

if you want I could try and get in touch with that guy (his name is Chris too) and give him this thread---if he's still around he can tell you what he's doing for the animal now.

" I feed him feeder fish, which live in the water and he dives in and grabs them when hungry. I also feed him crickets which cling to the wood so they do not drown. He also ate a lot of Superworms which would fall into the water, he would then proceed to eat them. Hope this helps! " Quoted from the email which Dave reply me. that is so cool. he can catch fish too. i didnt even have such a idea.

i dont know about that setup, ive seen the pic.seems to me that might bring troubles down the road.i think its better 2 put a large water basin in his encloser, its alot safer that way, although tha mostly water thing might look more attractive.large cage, big water container, bark chips on bottom, grapewood branches, fake plants and vines,uv light, basking spot on 1 end of branch and your done.simple.
