Chinese Water Dragons
Dear RedTailBoa Forum Members,
I've seen quite a few CWDs, they were all friendly, but most if not all of them rubbed thier snouts against the glass aquarium, and had some sort of condition. What do you call this condition? Why is it so common in CWDs? What can you do to stop this problem? Also, does anyone know of a(ny) website(s) that discuss this issue in further detail? Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
SpookyScales

The dragons I have seen have had nose damage from rubbing screens or bumping and rubbing the sides of a glass cage. Sometimes from the cages being too small and from what I have been told the dragons will fight with thier reflection in the glass.
The abrasions from this can sometime get infected and blow up into all kinds of other problems.

Not an expert here so get a second opinion first but I have seen this done. my friend had an aggressive Savannah Monitor that used to attack it's own reflection. so we put some light colored window tint on the outside of it's cage (just like on a car) and it cured the problem.. she couldn't see her refelction and stopped attacking the glass..use the light colored stuff though you want light to get in.. like i said i'd get a pro's oppinion first...

Both of my CWD'S rub there nose against the glass, so i got the comic strips out of the news paper and put it around the cage about 2 feet high and then take it off at night, I know it sounds crazy but trust me those infections get expensive, I like the tinted glass idea myself.

Spooky..it doesnt matter the size of the aquarium you put the dragon into, it's going to fight for freedom if it wants it. You can try Freakzillas idea..I have used cardboard around the bottom of the cage and my WD still scratches at the glass. My water dragon digs at the ground at the glass, so hes not really trying to fight like the monitor. Their are many great websites for water dragons.Tricia's chinese water dragon site is great: http://www.icomm.ca/dragon/index.html
and you can try searching -- 'chinese water dragon care sheets'

you could get the shelf liner that is like a plastic weave and put it on the INSIDE of the cage--to get rid of the reflection altogether.
