No and no! I actually own one. I named him Artemis...anyway, they eat just about any bug, such as mealworms, wax worms, crickets, grasshoppers, spiders and even some scorpians. I find it disturbing since I'm a vegetarian, so I like to give him more fruits and vegetables. They do actually eat plants, mine rarely does though...only if he's starving. They also seem to like applesause for some reason. More info:they can run very, very fast...I don't exactly know how fast though...but it took the guy at the pet store about fifteen minutes to finally catch mine. Their average lifespan is about 7-23 years. They mostly live in South africa, and smaller portians in other parts of Africa, thus, the name:African Plated Lizard. That's about all I can remember at this point...I don't know if I was supposed to post all of this here, but, too bad, I did.
