Hello..
Why does it seem that so many people frown upon Central AMerican RedTails? I agree that some of them are too dark for my liking but the one I own is very lightly colored with a strong hint of pink in its sides. I was asking a guy at a local pet store about the difference between a Columbian and a Central and his reply "Centrals are ugly.. Grey with brown tails instead of red." I really prefer the lighter RedTails as opposed to some of the Columbians that appear to be almost all red. If someone could explain how to post a pic here I will show you Aragorn, my Central baby.
Thank you.

Most of the Central Americans i have run across ten to be pretty aggressive after they get a couple feet. Just an observation, maybe i was just meeting a bad batch

I think they are pretty in their own way, but its also a ssp of snake that occurs over such a wide range, that many localities look very different from one another.
Its all really just a matter of personal preference.

To me..its seems its all about $$ The more something costs..I think the more desireable it becomes..Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..Personally..I Live both the true red tails...and the imperators...and every shade/pattern in between.. I have a Common Colubmian Boa...not too dark..not too light...and to me...he is just awesome....No bright red coloring in the tail...but he is a neat looking snake. They all are. So I think some people just look down on the common or central american common boa because they cost less...and are not as flashy..I love ALL boas

NAW..I find the CA's to also be more on the testy side also. [ Then again.corns just love to strike at me also usually lmao]. My CA has always been strikey...I have only found one person who can handle her np though to date. Every other CA I have come across also has been very strikey as well.

Ours is about 2 feet long and we've had him for a good while. He has never even tried to hiss at either of us. He just starts flickin and lookin around. Is there another red tail that's greyish in color?
Thanks.

Sure , there are plenty of RTB's that have a greyish coloring. Ya can get a BCI even that is a silverback even. BCC can be found in silverbacked coloring also or are greyish in color to begin with anyways. Not sure which pic this is of one of my Guyanas, Abby-Luv, But the kid in the pic is my daughter, Kryssy [ pic taken a few years ago btw ] ...

I have a Central American Redtail, in fact I live in Central America, I know they are a little darker than boas from South America, I don't know if it's just me but she seems a lot lighter during nights...anyone else notice this on your RTB?, mine's about 30 inches long, and she's a little aggressive, she hisses and sometimes strikes at me when I want to get her out of her cage, but when she's out she's just a total sweetheart...
I've had her for about 3 weeks now, and I'm already getting addicted to this snake stuff....I'm planning on getting an Emerald Tree Boa imported from Brazil in a few months.

Here are a few pics of my Lola....please tell me what you think....

This is Lola about to strike....

Here she is in her cage, It didn't substrate at the time the picture was taken....

hello all

cb here, long time member, as of lately- the occassional poster (due to time)

i feel i have to address an issue here

sabre and barons dad said it right.

the term redtail is and should only be used with a boa that has a redtail

IF THE BOA DOESNT HAVE A REDTAIL, IT IS NOT A REDTAIL! simple and the plain truth.

i feel this is a serious issue because people buy redtail this and redtail that and breed with out any concern for locale, or even subpecies.

i see it over and over again and i am disappointed by the number of poor quality mutts being produced on the market.

if you have a boa, ffrom central america, call it a CA boa- not a redtail.

this hobby is in trouble because of the misuse of terms and information that go around and readily accepted.

redtail doesnt mean a colombain boa, and is not another name for the bcc's. there are no "true redtails", there are only boas with redtails- if you're lucky.

anyways, i havent posted in a long time and saw what sabre put and it made me think
so i put it here.

good luck to all boa owners, and start using real names instead of incorrect common names. common names do not always fit, and some are down right wrong.

peace!
