Rosy boa or corn snake?
I've never owned a snake before but I've always wanted one. Working at a pet store, I've been able to learn a fair bit about snake care and I think I'm ready for my first. I've had experiences with corn snakes and they seem like great first-time snakes. They eat well, tend to be sweet, and don't get huge. But my dad says that the only snake I can have in the house (alas, as a poor college student, I'm stuck at home) is a rosy boa. Don't ask why - I think it's a power trip for him or something. Since I don't have any personal experiences with rosies, I'd like some feedback from you guys as to which would be a better first snake. I'd also like if I could get a comparative of the statistics of the two (size, housing/heat/humidity requirements, special needs, etc) as a lot of the information I've gathered seems to vary when it comes to the rosies. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Rosy boa or corn snake?
I would like a snake that I can handle fairly easily and something that I can gain a lot of knowledge from. I'm not looking for anything to breed as I know I'm not nearly that experienced yet (and I feel that there are enough animals in the world already; no need to profit from adding to it when there are those that need homes). I think snakes are beautiful and fantastic animals and I would love to have one as a companion pet. I want a snake with a good temperament so I can prove to my parents that they aren't evil vicious creatures.

Re: Rosy boa or corn snake?
I currently have both about three feet on either side of me, the corn snake was my first snake (not this one but another one) I say for temperment either is fine but, my 6 y/o rosy is on a bit of a feeding strike.

Re: Rosy boa or corn snake?
Cornsnakes are among the most interactive of snake pets and are easy to keep and adaptable. Rosy boas are duds in comparison (behaviours) and are a step up in care requirements.
.
That's my opinion on that.

Re: Rosy boa or corn snake?
Well I have heard rosies can have a bit of an attitude but any snake can so if your looking fo someone to show your parents that they are not vicious animals get a corn snake
Corns are very active expecially with handling. They are less expensive to feed/keep.

I knew someone with one that was mean. I think they didnt feed it enough though so it was feeding responses.

Re: Rosy boa or corn snake?
Yea my rosy is a rescue. The owners only fed it a live adult mouse every month. Shes been have some problems feeding still..
After thinking about it I can't think of any problems with either of them, I like colubrids better than anything though so I say the corn. The normals look better than any morphs to me... | |
