Last year I purchased a Dumerils Boa from a private owner. With the research I've done I'm not sure if its a Dumeril or a Madagascar Ground Boa. I can't find much info on the difference besides size. If anybody knows anything more please let me no.

Can you post a pic of this snake or even e-mail me one? We can tell you what you have, but we need something to go on here.

There is quite a large difference in Dumereli and Madagascarensis,
other than a number of physical differences, there is also about 1000$ added to the price tag for one of those.
: )
I bet you its a dumeril's.

Hi,
I've got Dums and its very easy to tell....go to http://www.alltheweb.com and enter Dumeril Boa Constrictors and you will find hundreds of pages with pictures. Also if my memory serves me right the Dumeril has the Teddy Bear on the head, the other doesn't. Also the dum doesn't have the blues and reds and oranges all mixed together in one snake as the other does or can.
I also agree that the price tag would tell you if nothing else did. Baby Dumerils run approximately $ 150 with prices graduating up for mature and proven stock. I would think you could at least add another thousand if it was a Madagascar Ground Boa.
Thanks....hope it helped some.

Mad ground boas have a longer more prononsed snout and also compared to the dumerils and patternless fr the most part some will have a few saddles or half saddles, mad gournds get a lot larger then do dumerils, 10fters are not uncommon with grounds where as its dumerils 7-8 is max take a look at my site youll see a lot of dumerils pics I havnt gotten into the grounds yet but want to one of these days, also if ya paid less then $1000 im pretty sure you got a dum no one is selling mads for less then that, hopes this helps
