Hey everyone I have a question.
I just recently acquired a pair of Brazilian Rainbow Boas, (each snake from a different person) who are both very attractive in their own way. I was planning on breeding them once they get to the correct size, but I was wondering, do pairs of snakes ever just not get along? Has anyone put two snakes together planning to breed them and had it not work out? That would rather stink. Another question I had, this one more BRB specific, is what is an appropriate age/size to put them together? To be honest I have NO idea how to go about this breeding thing honestly, so whatever advice you give would be great. (I'll be reading on my own too) I'm assuming that they are too young yet personally, since they are both about 4 foot in length, the female a bit longer but the male a bit heftier.
anyhow any advice would be appreciated.

P.S. I'll be posting pics soon, the male is a real deep red and the female almost looks like she swam through bleach or something, her 'top' is the typical color but the bottom half is all white except for the 'peacock' patches which have a very bright orange on the top of them.

I don't know that much about rainbow's, aside from knowing that they are gorgeous creatures!! Also have not had the time or patience for breeding. What I do know is that it involves cool down cycles, to simulate nature. How much have they been held? Are they tame? You usually have better luck with snakes that have not been handled that much. Were they pets? That's my input. I am not an expert, but maybe this helped a little?

"Usually have more luck with snakes that have not been handled that much."
Aww crap.
Both of them are extremely tame (but then again, show me a BRB that isn't) the female was handled all the time by the previous owner and the male seems to have been handled a lot too.

>>any advice would be appreciated<<
Thats what I offered, and from my studies, snakes left more to nature then to pets breed easier.

Naturally, few snakes stay as pairs past the breeding season. However, in captivity, you can keep a pair together and breed them repeatedly: induced pairing. Small chance that they will refuse to mate, unless they are of the wrong age or climatic conditiions are wrong. But there always may be a possibility, kind of like personality problem.

HI,
Not a reptile breeder, but what I ve seen on forums is that all snakes should have their own cage, with some species if they are kept together they are less likely to breed.
Most snake require a cooling period (seasonal) and are bred in the spring.
here's and excelent site someone pointed me to

Good luck
Doug

In extreme cases some pairs won't get along to the extent where one says.
"This cage ain't big enough for the two of us, but theres room in my tummy for you"!
Citing a pair of spotted pythons I used to know (not mine thankfully).!
