Just curious - lots of folks seem to be posting about their brb babies that don't bite, yet the info in circulation mostly says they bite. (Ours hasn't yet). Are all these nicely behaved snakes exceptions? Where do we all weigh in on this -- does your snake nip or not?

The hatchling that we have has never attempted to bite. I have heard the same about them being nippy, though. Maybe when they reach a larger size their temperment could change? I just know they are definitely worth the risk. Although we have only had ours a week and a half she has only tried to nip 1 time and that was the first day we had her. We finnaly named her Prism. She has been very docile and content. She is also eating quite well, twice since we got her. She has also grown 3 inches in a week and a half. [addsig]

My baby BRB also does not bite. When I first got her, once she seemed to coil back like she was going to strike, but never actually struck. Ever since then, she has been great! She does seem to be a bit reluctant to eat though.[addsig]

I just got my baby BRB yesterday. BEAUTIFUL snake from Tim Frazier in Illinois. Anyway, it is totally tame, not even fazed by the travel and new habitat at all. Even ate a couple of pinkies on his first night with me. This snake has not so much as reared back or 'jumped' at my touch. He seems absolutely comfortable being handled and will just crawl all around my hand and arm even on the first time i took him out of his packaging from being shipped!!! I couldnt be more pleased with this snake!!!!

As newborns they usually tend to be nippey but very very quickly they tend to tame down. The only problems I've really ever had are with the imported adults...The hypo peruvian has been in country almost 5 years now and STILL is meaner then any snake I've ever owned LOL...All my BRB imported adults tamed down usually within about a month.
I think they are just a misunderstood animal!!!
They will get a better reputation with time.
Spread the good word.

my brb was a nasty lil' guy. i just held him twice and he never bit me again. yesterday, while i was holding him i was cleaning off his face and i guess he didnt like it. he gave me a mock bite. he struck at my finger tip but did nothing. his mouth was closed. i guess he didnt like me cleaning his head.

My rainbow, which is five months old, has struck at me three times but only bitten me twice. both times it was my fault, though. the first time I startled her when i picked her up. she was trying to burrow into a big fluffy chair i was sitting in. the second time she'd just eaten and i was pulling her out of her lunch bag, which smelled strongly of mouse, and my fingers probably looked pretty tempting. otherwise she's really sweet and even lets me clean moss off her face.

Well, once I got my BRB to start eating well, she became a bit pissy. Now she's just fine as long as I give her enough time to settle after feeding time.

My baby girl only hisses at my mother and only struck at me once when I accidentally brushed the end of her tail when rearanging the cage. Guess she didn't like the surprise much, but she didn't even strike the full distance at my hand, she stopped halfway there. She is pretty young too...about 17-20" long...and eats like a beast

I've only handled my new 12 inch BRB twice...but it neither hissed, struck, or even got into striking position either time. I feed it today so we'll see what happens when I try to move her back into her cage after feeding

Incredible! Half a year after I posted this, Henrietta finally got pissy with me! She was in blue, and I went in to mist her cage and move some things around, and she hissed at me! LOUD! She bent into "The Pose," and gave me "The Look," and I knew I was in trouble if I didn't leave her alone.
Last night, though, she had relieved herself of her old skin and a giant crap, and she was in a much better mood. Still no actual bites. Knock wood.
