My rosy boa, I have to get rid of him.
Its going to be hard for me to sell/give away my first and most beloved snake my year and 3 month old rosy boa. But lately he has just been the meanest thing. Its been about 4 months of this meaness. My mom says she doesnt want a snake around that doesn't like to be held anymore.
Shes letting me wait alittle longer to see if he stops being a hassel, but i haven't seen any signs.
I told her that snakes often aren't the nicest things in the world, but she doesn't want him in the house.
I have asked sooo many people about his sudden nasty spell, but no one seems to have a answer that fits all the problems. I have even postest a few thread her about him. Haven't gotten much yet
Is anyone here interested in a Male Coastal Rosy Boa, he is in great health.
thanks.

hey i am so sorry for your loss i cant think of a reason why he would just suddenly freak out like that i have a northern mojave rosy boa nicest snake I have ever seen but this is all i could come up with
1. did you handle him enough?
2. Try and take him to a vet and ask them if they can help
3. Does he Strike at you? If he doesn't handle him for about 30 seconds the next day a minute and so on
4. did yoou get it from a breeder?
my rosy will try and freak me out every once and a while but never ever tries to strike thats all i could come up with

before he went crazy (right after halloween) i was holding him almost everyday. i don't think theres such things as "to much holding"
i could that. His vet is a freind of mine.
he gets in stike position at me everytime i walk by the cage, but only once has he actually tried and wacked against the cage wall
I got him from a kind of icky reptile store, but they had nice snakes. But the people weren't all that nice.
Hes my baby and i dont want to get rid of him, but I don't feel like i am taking perfect care of him anymore.

I don't know alot about rosy's, but my bci started doing that when he reached a certain age, about 8 months old. It started when I was feeding him one day: He just sat there in strike position and wasn't bothering the f/k rat. When me or anyone else would go anywhere near the feeding tank, he would strike out at us. We didn't even have to be very close to the tank. After that, he would get in strike position toward me any time I went near his cage or anything. So I got a leather work glove, and I would put the glove in front of his face. Then I'd touch his face with it lightly. Then I would pet him with the glove. Within a minute or 2, he'd start crawling around, maybe trying to get away from it. As soon as his tail was toward me, I'd reach in and pick him up, and never had a problem doing it that way. Pretty soon, I didn't have to use the glove anymore, and he's been calm since then. I think using the glove to touch them some first shows them that you're not a threat or food. I think that would work with your rosy. A breeder told me that alot of snakes go through a "teenage" phase, where they're more rebellious than usual. Maybe that's the case. Hope I helped some, and good luck.
