general handling.
there have probably been a few posts like this, but i was interested in the circumstances in which most of you handle your snake. i RARELY take out my snake [maybe once or twice a month] and its partially because i dont have time, and partially because i dont really engage in activitys that can involve a snake being out. occasionally watch movies, in which case ill pull him out for an hour and a half or so. but i dont watch tv, or spend much time online, or sitting, so id like suggestions, or just hear about when you guys take your snakes out, and what you do with them. hes going to be a big boy someday, and so id like him to be a TAME big boy, he doesnt bike, and hes not really skittish for how little i handle him. but im always open to new ideas.
and heres a pic

well what are your temps like in your area? when i was in cali i used to take my rtb to the pet store with me when i got supplies. I also used to take her with me to the store when she was little...... Think about it though 2 times a week for 10-20 minutes or so is all you really need.....I'm sure you can free up an hour a week or so to take your snake out... Funny but one hour a week is only .5% of your total week.... even if you count 8 hours of sleep a night its only .8% of your week

Whenever I take my boa out, I will hold him on my hand and let him perch up in the air for a good 5-10 or so minutes, then I'll set him down in my bed and let him go wherever he wants for another 5-15 minutes, then I'll put him up in his favorite fake tree on top of my nightstand, and let him hang out there for a good 15 or 20 minutes.
I handle him maybe 3-4 times a week, but it has been less lately because he's been sick.
I've never had him strike at me once, and he's never been jumpy or antsy. Whenever I let him roam he will usually travel a few feet and stop somewhere when he feels like he found a good spot. His tree is his favorite. Sometimes I'll just take him straight there, and I'll put him there when I replace the newspaper or something.
I guess if you can find somewhere that he likes to be, outside of his tank... go ahead and put him there for a good 20 minutes. All it takes is a minute of your time and you could do other things when you put him there, if you want. Just make sure to acknowledge your presence so he doesn't get territorial.

I handle Dante 1-3 times a week. It's a balancing act between getting ready to eat, just ate, getting ready to shed, and just shed, in addition to balancing my daily life. I | |
