Me and a really big girl
Today was my first experiance handling anything over 6 foot. I used to think that I would never want something like a burm, but now my mind is changed. If I ever get the room for one, I will definately look into the rescues/adoptions.

Whew glad it was a snake. They are nice. Befoer you go jumping into it, hang out with someone that has one on feed day or pooping day, or better yet buying feed day.

i know, and trust me, i am by no way going to rush into it. people rushing into buying burms is why they are so common in rescues etc.
and the people at the shop estimated that she is about 16 foot long. she is definately a big girl, but i really cant say for sure if she is all 16 feet.

I can second that motion. I have a burm myself and it's #$%^$%^$%^$%^& on feed day. For one if you and your snake isn't on a common level on feed day, it may be your last. The reason I say this is because I have encoutered that different time of year a females appetite increases alot. Not just burms I have noticed that in my rtb's as well. But the cost to feed her ranges from 12.99 plus tax-$ 40 because my snake is a very finecky eater. Sometimes she just prefers rats over the rabbit. Here's a pic of me and my baby Akasha.

I notice another thing with burms that isn't displayed as much in other snakes. Burms have a keen since of ownership. I say this because when we go to park or to the beach, my burm will let people hold her but only for a limited time. Then she will find her way back to me and crawl back on my shoulders. I don't know if she notice something about the person that i don't. But she does that all the time. Now don't get me wrong I don't go around and let everyone holds her, esp the ones that says " Does it bite?" That burns me up. But I don't know if I am the only that notice that but I would definately like know if anyone else has notice in their snakes, not just the burms. I should be posting so new pic of her and our voyage to my cousin's house.

Burms are great looking, but just a bit to large for my taste... perhaps in time.
Nice burms btw!

I am glad I'm not the only that experience that. I mean it does take the fact that I am not special anymore...but hey I'll get over it.

both of my boas always come back to me if they are being held by someone else...even if that someone else is Anne Marie, and she has been around since before I got either of them. I don't chalk it up to any kind of... trick. I think it has more to do with scent, and the experienced hands of an owner, vs the tentative hands of someone not as experienced. I think that fear/uncertainty can be sensed by the snakes, and they look for a safer environment, and come back to our scent that they have come to see as safe.
Maybe tho, it's just because as owners, we typically stay close ... just in case ... and they are looking for something nearby to climb to... and we just happen to be nearby. *shrug* lo | |
