It's gone. All gone.
Well I finally did it. I figured sooner or later I was really going to get sick of it... it was a love/hate relationship with my hair, really. For six years, since 8th grade, I have been growing my hair. Why? I really don't know, nor do I really know how I could stand caring for it for so long. I just never really bothered/wanted to cut my hair... indeed it was beautiful as it grew. It was all of these natural shades of honey blonde, some red and brown... natural highlights.
The more it grew, the more I had to keep it tied back in some fashion... whether up in a bun or in some kind of a braid. It got to the point where it was so heavy it would give me headaches if I had it tied back up high on my head... especially in a bun... and it would also tangle really bad and really easily... Sometimes I'd come to the urge where I just wanted it all shaved off or cut boy-short. I'd sit on it, it would get caught in things and always be in my face... and I'd have to get a new bottle of shampoo about every 3 weeks because I used so much.
So the other day I got really fed up with it for a lot of reasons... and I told my mom "I want it cut this weekend." And so we had an appointment scheduled at a hair place that would donate my hair to child cancer patients. There was no way my hair was just going to waste... especially after all this time letting it grow. I was SOOOOOO excited and I couldn't wait... I walked into that hair salon expecting big reactions, and I got a lot lol... So I sat in the rotating chair as the hairdresser began braiding my hair to prepare to cut it off. A guy hairdresser walked by and was like, "Big cut, huh?" Another lady sitting next to me was getting her hair done, and her hair dresser was like, "Look at her hair" and turned her around... that lady saw my hair, knew it was going to be cut.. and she put her hand to her mouth and gasped.. she said "You are so brave getting it cut." and all I could do was smile and just say, "I'm going to be thrilled when it's gone."
My dentist always called me "Repunsel" (sp?) and my friends always loved my long hair and couldn't believe how long it was... they'd tell me they'd hate it if I got it cut... ahaha... oh well... I told my Dentist the other day that I was getting it cut, and her and her two assistants all gasped and were like "Just a trim, right???" and I'm like, "Nope.." LOL
So anyway... here I am, sitting there, the braid done.. my mom sitting by me... and my hairdresser was like, "Okaaaayyy... here we go, first cut! Its now or never!" and she cut it off little by little. I already felt like 10lbs lighter.. ahaha....
My hair, unbraided, was practically to my knees. Braided, it was over 2ft long... it was to my butt, basically. lol The cut braid was over 2ft long, and they took a picture of me holding it after my hairdresser washed and layered my hair.
But I am so happy now... I love my new hair, a little past shoulder length. It took me the longest time to make this decision... it took me a couple years to decide. I love it now, I can pull it back in a ponytail and all sorts without any headaches, and it's like a fluffy pom-pom... lol My hair even naturally started curling after it got cut.. I still have all of this pent-up excitement that I'm not sure how to express... but I'm happy with the new refreshed "me."  One thing is... I can grow it all out again if I wanted to... but I don't believe that will be anytime soon.
This was January this year... you can see how long the braid was.
These were all taken yesterday, when I got my hair cut. These are all natural colors and highlights, mind you... I have NEVER, EVER, colored my hair.

awwwwww..... thanks guys.
I noticed I look a lot better with the shorter hair now, too... certainly perkier, and a little thinner.... heeee... lol Now that the hair is gone, I'm working on the weight. lol
Plus all of you get a better idea of what I look like now... lol

I think Gus said it best. I hated cutting my hair I can't wait to grow it back again. Glad it went to a good cause also.

Once I cut my hair off I was in shock for a bit, but after I got used to it and how much lighter and freer I felt, it was a decision I wished I had just made sooner.
Yours looks great You'll save a fortune on conditioner too...haha

There was definitely no shock after it came off..... I was sooooo ready for it to be gone... but I am just so happy now and glad I could donate it to a good cause. I still have all this excitement trapped inside. lol
Definitely save a LOT on shampoo and conditioner now too! LOL I use only 1/4 of what I used before!
EDIT** I misunderstood dhonaker's post there for a second... had to retype what i said after i read it again..... lol its late
A lot of girls who don't have hair because of cancer, I can't imagine how they must feel. I'm glad I could give them mine.

Your hair looks GREAT!!I donated my hair last year(almost 18 inches to Locks of Love) and I am so glad my hair is growing back lol I miss it...but I don't ever want it to be to my butt again!Too much work lol
Your new hairstyle looks awesome and you did a great thing by donating it!

yea geeze... i didn't read dhonaker's post right the first time so I thought he was talking about girls who just got their hair CUT and feeling embarrassed... it took me a second to realize he was talking about girls with cancer and with NO hair at all.... ahfughglalghglagh
so what i was saying was, i feel in my opinion that for girls to feel embarrassed after they get their hair CUT (not having no hair at all) that they're a bit insecure about how they may look around guys, is all... I mean, yeah I get a little concerned with that sometimes but I dress to make myself happy..
but yes, with girls who don't have any hair at all... I often saw a girl around my campus who didn't have any.. and I figured because of cancer... embarrassing, oh definitely.. i mean its not the same as a guy going around with no hair.. cause that's normal.

well, for ONE.... you really are VERY beautiful. lose weight if YOU want to, if that is what will make YOU happy, but not because someone else thinks you need to!

Oh but of course I want to lose weight... I want to do it to make myself happy... lol then I can get back into the jeans I used to be able to wear a few years ago and quit going up in size.. ugh. lol
I'm still so happy. lol It's so much cooler now with it short and in a ponytail.. especially in this hot humid weather!
