feeding an ackie
hi, ackies seem like great pets to me and i really want to get one. Only problem is, i dont know how much they eat. I read somewhere that a guy feeds his between 30-100 crix a day. That is way more than i can afford. So, if anyone has them or has had experience with them, can you please inform me as to how much they eat or how you can vary their diets to reduce the cost of food. Also, just wondering about buying them; can they be shipped usually? I think i'd have a hard time finding someone who sells them in NYC.

I can't tell you how much they eat, but I do know that a varied diet is healthier. They REALLY like spiders, LOL. You can feed them rodents, possibly freshwater fish/shrimp, crayfish. Monitors are garbage guts, hehe. They LOVE to eat!

Yeah, i did look at it. It is a great site. The problem is that it doesnt say how much they eat it just says what they eat. It says they feed it crickets 4 days a week. Now, that' all good and well; but how many? There's a huge price difference in giving 20 a day and 100 a day. Does anyone know on average, how many they eat in 1 sitting?

You can feed them roaches which get large, easier to breed, and don't have as much smell.
