Homer Shed again?
Homer, the savannah monitor, just finished a shed. Now it looks like he is starting all over. Whats going on? I found him and he was most likely not eating right. He sure is now and he is growing fast. What's going on? Could he just be growing too fast?

My tegus shed so often the first year I thought I would never see them looking normal. As it was, they were growing fast ,eating alot and being healthy tegus.
As they approach being full grown they shed less now.
I think it's a sign that everything is good for homer
Please post a photo when he finishes this shed so we can see him again...I really love lizards, monitors, tegus and cyclura in particular

He is eating 4 Hoppers from RodentPro.com every other day and on the day he dose not get the mice, I feed him dusted crickets. He always wants more.
His lighting is from a uv light I got from the pet store. I'm still working on his new cage and I'm not sure how I will light or heat it. It will be 8' long.
He is still very wild. I try to get him out every day. Sometimes it's hard. I work 2 jobs, 7 days a week. He has his good day and his bad day, just like me. He pooped on me last night, yuck. My wife don't like him to much, but she even trys to come pet him some. Thanks for you help.

2.5' and only eating hoppers. Are they hopper rats or hopper mice?

He could easily eat a full size mouse. My savannah is a foot and he downs mice like no tomorrow.

yeah i would feed him a full size mouse every 2 to 3 days. If you looks to be really hungry try two mice every other feeding or so. Just make sure he isn't gaining to much wieght and getting fat. that is very common in savannahs.

you can try chicks soon too....
make sure that light is an actual UVB light...many times the bulbs that come with these fixtures are not uvb's or at best poor quality uvb.
I would definately get a Trex MVB 100 watt spot and use it as a basking and uvb source....keep it on one side and let the other side be cool....at night use another source that comes on when the other goes out like a CHE, noct bulb or UTH under or over his sleeping spot.
Put a flat rock like slate under the basking spot on the floor that's large enough for him to bask on.
The MVB is something you should do asap though...go to Reptile Direct, they have the best prices
