Hey, today at the show I purchased two CB savannah monitors. Here are their pics. The guy said that they are good to house in pairs. I haven't heard this before so I got the last two and they arent very close in size. Right now they are housed seperately, but if you guys think its ok to house the two then they will be put together. Of course their feeding will be monitored.
Here is the smaller of the two.
Now the biggest of the two.
Tell me what you think of them, and your opinion on if they are able to be housed together. Oh yeah, I know what to feed them, except I have heard both stories on meat(hamburger etc.). Should they be fed this?? If so cooked or not.
Also today I fed the, the bigger one ate alittle bit of mealies, not much. BUt the smaller one is a PIIIG!! He ate 5 mealies yesterday, 12 today, then 2 big crickets

If you decide to feed them ground meat, turkey is best and COOKED. Understand that it is only a supplemental meal and should not replace the diet they should normally get (insects, rodents, etc..) How the heck are you going to house them when they are adults? You realize they will need an enclosure that is 8'x4'x4' each, right? Housing together is not a good idea unless they are going to breed. All other times they should be seperate so feeding won't be an issue. One will have a tendency to intimidate the other and eat all of its food. IF you do house together, then you will have to feed like this: offer food to one, then the other. Take turns feeding each one so it makes you the 'alpha leader'.

hehe, that's good. Because picturing a large enclosure and actually seeing it are two different things. I am still flabbergasted over the one sitting here for Kate...

No idea on her age, she was adoption. That is a standard toilet tank, you get the idea of her size, LOL. Nose to vent, I guess her at 2 feet... nose to tail, probably 4.5 feet

yesterday i made each of them a box where they climb up a ramp then turn into it and climb down another, its like a little castle they really like it. They also enjoy the pieces of paper towel i put in the cage. They are so cute and funny to watch. When i figure out how to get digital camera vidoe to work ill have some vidoe of these vicious guys eating and playing.

I definately would not house them together. As babies they may be ok but even as sub adults they get very teritorial. Specially if one is bigger, even though Savannahs can be cute and cuddly they are very powerful too. Good luck with them Dont forget they like it good and hot too.

I wondered about that too, Ed. Normally, I'm pretty wary about housing mine together anyway; I wouldn't want to stress them out and/or cause unnecessary competition.
On another note, they both look very cute, Don! Just wait till they get big!

Thanks i think they're cute too. But I may not have made it clear enough. They are being housed seperately, but givin time(supervised) in a shoe box together. I am trying to make them friends I think that would be awesome. They'd be bf and gf well hopefully, otherwise they are..............nevermind. One question though. Is there a posibility they become attached to each other, and are defensive for each other and dislike me?? Could that happen

Have you really thought about how much space all your enclosures will take up? Like LdyDrgn said the Savs will each need 4x8x4 enclosures. (I'm assuming she's right) When that burm is full grown he is going to need something at least 4x8x3. Figure 2x6x2 for the boa. I don't know anything about any of the others that you have but they do take up some space. I don't know how old you are but judging by your mugshot pics I'd guess you're a young'un, probably still living with the parents and will be there for a few years. Are they aware of how much room these things will need? Will they let you have the room? After you move out, if you're like most of us, you will probably get an apartment. Will you be able to get one that's big enough for everyone? or one that will allow you to have them there at all? I know a guy that has a 14ft+ Burm which he has to keep at a friends house because he doesn't have room for the enclosure in his apartment and that just 1 enclosure. That's something you should really think about.

Yes I have thought about all this. No matter HOW much I think about my future, its never a sure thing. But I have thought about all which you mentioned and I have a plan ahead of me. I plan on going to Arizona State to major in biology and specialize in Herpetology. I have relatives out there, which live right by the college. My aunt and uncle have offered plenty of times to build me a small house near the college if I wish(they have money). If that fails, I will find an apartment which will allow animals, and that will mean less space for me, or I would think they would allow animals if I'm majoring in that area. Also I have many of adult herpers that would be mroe than happy to hold oonto a few until I am done with college.
