Is it hard to keep humidity up with that kind of substrate? How do you regulate it? (Just curious)

I actually have part of the top open now to help keep it cool inside. That really dries the dirt out on top. I spray the inside with a garden hose every once in a while. The dirt is deep enough to still be very humid underground. The last time I dug for eggs the dirt was very wet down deep, but very dry on top like it is now. The other side of the enclosure does not have any basking spots, has a water tub, and the dirt is moist on top.
The female is just over 3 feet and the male is between 3.5 and 4 feet.
