Blackthroat/whitethrat magazine article
There is an article in the newest Reptiles Magazine on Whitethroats. A blackthroat is on the cover. I thought some of you would be interested in checking it out. I have not read it yet so don't kill me if it is not a good article.

Re: Blackthroat/whitethrat magazine article
I am kind of sorry that i posted about that magazine article. The enclosure type and husbandry he explained will not work for most people keeping an albigularis in their home. It seems to be written in terms of keeping the monitors outdoors, or in a green house type building.
I hope that a lot of new keepers do not follow his instructions. He did do a good job in explaining the differences in the three subspecies.

Re: Blackthroat/whitethrat magazine article
Ed, are you sure it was a blackthroat? Did you not read the post on taxonomy on varanusnl?

Re: Blackthroat/whitethrat magazine article
I should have said albig. I didn't look closely at the picture until after I posted. I think I skimmed over that thread on v.nl but that is it.

Re: Blackthroat/whitethrat magazine article
When you get a chance read it, it seems they are all technically "white throats".

Yes, it just adds to the confusion of common names which is ever changing just like scientific names.

Ah yes, but within that lies the true gem of science....would you rather immediately change as you find out you were previously wrong even though it throws a wrench in your program (science) or stubbornly insist you were right even though everyone else knows otherwise forever? Tom...maybe you noticed my double entendre....

Re: Blackthroat/whitethrat magazine article
Yep, next week someone will find a different scale count on a monitor and a new subspecies or species will be recognized. It is hard to keep up with science.
I am about to call them all lizards and end it at that
