Most V. dumerilii in the pet trade are wild caught in traps. The only one breeding them in the US on a regular basis (frequently) with any kind of real success is Ben Aller.

They are not at all commonly seen in the wild, which leads me and others to believe that they are somewhat rare. Unfortunately, Ben Aller has trouble selling off all the baby V. dumerilii that he produces to responsible keepers, because 1) Too many over there would prefer to have them taken out of the wild and increase the pressure for them to survive-all so they can have a cheaper monitor and 2) He really has trouble finding responsible keepers.
