Re: black throat monitor questions
Post pics of the current enclosure please
While building your new one your BT needs to still be in a very good enclosure. Ive gotten most of my info on the internet and from friends and whatnot. Not everything on the internet is bad advice you just have to know where to look and who to go to.
A very important thing is to leave your BT alone right now because hes adjusting and the more you mess with him the more stressed out he will become which could lead to all kinds of problems and even death. Leave him alone let him adjust and let him to come to you when you go to the cage. No matter what you do NEVER FORCE HIM to do anything.

Re: black throat monitor questions
ALLRIGHTY, sorry to keep you guys waiting, here are pics of Sai and his new enclosure. I am not done the enclosure, i still have to build a few platforms and decorate it for him, but as is it was better than what he had (no pics of old tank, too ashamed )
Building....

The front door

The side window

Children are too curious for their own good....
THATS WHY I GOT THIS!

Sai in all his scaled glory

And Sai chillin

as i said, i still have to put decor in the tank.... I am thinking of finding a sturdy plant and getting a UV installed in the tank... (any suggestions for a plant he won't destroy?), and i am going to make basking platforms. I will update when this happens (soon)

Re: black throat monitor questions
the holes you see are covered. on the side there is a bed beside the hole, no way he can get out (i hope, pray im not wrong) and I covered the hole in the top of the door-ran out of wire when i was building.

Re: black throat monitor questions
You are wrong As soon as that monitor gets 5+ feet it will tear down that hardware cloth and / or break the $3.00 draw catch. I suggest changing both.
I have hardware cloth but it is in no place the monitor can put all of his body
weight on it or it would be pulled down:

I also have draw catches but they are these:
2-1/2 Lockable Draw Catches 2pk #N208-579 by: National Mfg. Co. - F.D.
They have a good strong catch to them not a flimsy decorative catch. I have the decorative ones for my Savannah monitor who is not big enough to break them.

Re: black throat monitor questions
yea there was one place i thought Sai could escape from..... He found 2. I will never doubt a monitor's intelligence again lol..... mind you, one of his escape routes left him stuck and me dismantling part of the tank to get him out...

Re: black throat monitor questions
I had my salvator pull her sliding plexi apart and squeeze through it. We found her behind the cage, and had to move the cage with all the dirt in it, and a boulder with out crushing her. Good times.
