Re: Green anoles
There again, I wouldn't do it.
I might buy an anole to scent a mouse with, but that's about the extent of it. I really hate feeding reptiles to reptiles unless it is absolutely necessary to save an animal's life.

Re: Green anoles
Agreed, I wouldn't do it unless it's necessary for the animals health. I dislike the idea of feeding reptiles to other reptiles, like Xeike said. You have a ton of option as to what to feed your Sav, so anoles aren't needed.
Plus I have such fond memories of saving the little guys from my cats when I was little...the bites, the pooping on me...ah, childhood.

Re: Green anoles
I breed/bred Anoles to start, hard to start, Milks and Kings who refused rodent first meal but I can't see where they would offer much to a Sav.
I would think you would be better off with rodent prey.

Re: Green anoles
Yeah... I've known a few snakes who had to eat anoles because they just would not eat anything else. I can understand that. Just just doing it to do it.... Not so much. And like John said, I don't think they'd offer much in the way of nutrition for your sav.

Re: Green anoles
I don't like the idea either, but when it comes to keeping something that feeds exclusively on other reptiles, it's kind of a necessity.. Which is why I like keeping non-cannibalistic critters..

They dont nessasarily need to eat reptiles ''they can eat other reptiles''...
Monitors can eat sooo much things its not funny!
Like for example if I had a large BT and I would house it with a baby bt the adult would eat the baby right?
Same as snakes if I were to put a snake in the same cage as a large monitor bye bye snake....
Even some snakes eat other snakes ( kingsnakes, hots )
and lizards eating other lizards is natural but doesent mean you should do it...
I know for a fact if you monitor isnt eating its mice/crickets/chick/quails
( mainly its diet ) you have something wrong with husbandary!
So unless you husbandary is screw up or you monitor prefers lizards over any other prey item you shouldent really offer other lizards....
Just makeing a point ...

Why would you want to do that, if you can't handle watching a cobra eat a ball python? You wanna witness it, I'm sure there are plenty of National Geographic video clips spotlighting such things on YouTube.

I don't think he meant that Savs needed to eats reptiles...I think he was just making an observation about feeding herps other herps in general.

Re: Green anoles
See, I don't really like watching those kinda vids. When it's a lion chasing an antelope, or a wolf chasing a caribou, it's all good because I know who to root for. (Carnivores all the way!) But a snake eating another snake? I wouldn't know who to cheer on. And I'd just feel sorry for the loser.

Well the constrictor or the venem!
Sometimes the venem wins and sometimes the constrictors win!
You dont see snakes eating snakes all the time.. you see the lion chaseing the antelope alot right! Its just something differnt I dont root for it but just something you dont see everyday...
